I just want your opinion as what do you think it will take before we can win one of those trinkets indicated in my avatar again.

I have a theory I will expound on later after I see some posts.

I will give you a couple of clues.
1-Its something the Pats have had during their great run.
2-Its something we have not had during the later Shula years and ever since.

Trust, and to play as a team.

Draft well, build loyalty, maintain the cap, and have good coaching!

I believe we've had coaches capabale of taking us to the SuperBowl. One thing we have lacked is a true leader at QB. Someone the entire team truly believes will win each and every Sunday. I'm not big on the 1st round draft / sell your soul to the devil type thing. I don't know who the answer is at QB. I like what I see so far from Berlin. I know one thing for sure, nobody and I mean nobody will ever win a SB with AJ Feeley at the helm.

A wide open offense.

The rules are now built on throwing the ball down the field and putting up points. Teams built strictly on defense can't win nowadays. It's a recent change, but the league didn't like seeing TB and B'more playing boring football and winning. Hence the rule changes the past couple years

IMO the key to success is depth.I have been watching a lot of Classic games lately and I noticed a common factor in our and our opponents losses. One or more key players were out of the game and the replacements were not up to the job.

Take for instance the famous 85 Bears game which is the favorite of many including mine.Their QB Jim McMahon who had led them during the whole season was out of the game.Could we have beaten them if he had led them?.I dont know.We had a great game plan for them and we matched up well but you have to figure they would have scored more points especially since our defense was porous in those days.

Then you have the great series against the Jets in 86 where we lost the first game 51-45 and then spanked them 45-3 later on that same season. We had Hugh Green missing in the first game and they had Gastineau missing in the second game.

I can point to out many other examples and you probably can too.

A big part of the Pats success is their "plug-in" approachto substitution .They prepare players to step in when a starter is injured and they hardly miss a beat when it happens.Thats because they place special emphasis in depth.

Fortunately for us Saban appears to have the same mindset

"My old college coach, Don James [at Kent State], used to say, `How good our team [is] will be based on the quality of the bottom 40 players, not the top 40 players,'" Saban said a few days before tonight's road game against the Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0).

"If you were to use a pro team, I guess you would say 25 [of 53] because it adds depth. It means if you lose a player, you have a quality player to take his place. It means your special teams are going to be better. It means that you can play more players at more roles and can be efficient and effective in all of those roles.

"If I had a concern right now, it would be what is the depth of our team really going to be. Because I think that that is one of the advantages that some of the better teams have is that they have players who have been in the system, who have quality players who can go out there and play winning football because of their knowledge and experience."

He also hates losing. You know will address the depth problem eventually.
BB move over.

It is true that in the jets game where we lost Hugh Green, i think in the 2nd qtr. Up until then we were starting to dominate the game and I even think green had managed a sack too. After his knee injury we went to pieces defensively. Crunch can you remember who Green's substitute was that day.
