Kickoff from 35, touchback from 25. This proposal is utter nonsense. It all but eliminates special teams component of the game.

So in about 3-4 years we can expect sponsors and flags hanging out the back I'm guessing? NFL is playing with fire. I don't watch as much football as it is unless Miami is playing or it's a REALLY good game within our division someone else is playing as it is. Game is being based off who gets most penalties and/or the worst calls when it comes to "violent" hits.

Yeah pretty gay, didn't even make any attempt to make it a decision. They kept the wedge and the start at the 20yard line. They should have went no wedge, start at the 30 yard line and no running start for kickoff teams. Then you would still get kickoff returns and add a decision in there if you want to give an automatic start at the 30 or chance of a return.

This is really turning into the "No Fun League".

Decreased electric kickoffs, no celebrations w/o a penalty and fine . . . I mean damn I know player safety is important and all but this is getting ridiculous. This guy Goodell is slowly ruining the game we all love.

I guess we should all stop driving cars to work because that's dangerous. Even Hockey is starting to mess with their hits I think. If anything I'm taking a bigger risk driving to work than they are stepping out onto the field. I feel I should be compensated somehow ;).

Horrible idea. It ruins kickoffs entirely.

This is a result of the "offensive minded push" we have seen in sports over the past few years... they want points, they want speed.. who would have wondered adding more distance and speed for NFL players would have resulted in increased injuries....

To be honest, undoing this rule and reverting back to the 1994 kickoff spot doesnt really bother me too much.

What I dont understand is the logic behind allowing receivers to run freely. Not allowing defenders to touch them...
It is no coincidence that the level of hard hits to "defenseless receivers' has gone up since the NFL disallowed putting a finger on wide receivers...
When you cannot impede an athlete at all, and he is allowed to run as fast as he can at all times, catastrophic collisions are going to occur more often.

But, "player safety" is what the NFL is aiming for.....
obviously not, its all about points.

The one positive thing that comes out of these new rule changes is the only rule that wasn't passed yet out of the 5.
By not hastily putting out a rule that basically bans any type of hit, and actually taking time to deliberate and come up with a better solution, was the best rule decision.

Hopefully the NFL will listen to what THE PLAYERS are saying, to not change THEIR game. The NFL is a violent game by nature, its what they signed up for, and its what they are paid millions upon millions of dollars to do. They know it, they publicly say it, and hopefully the NFL will listen.

I'm actually fine with this rule. They said the kickoffs are where the most injuries happen, so I respect them trying to protect players. Maybe I feel like this because Miami KO returns aren't exciting (in a good way). I'm guessing Bears fans are rather upset.

We are probably the #1 team this benefits. 1) We have absolutely no kicking returning ability, getting past the 25 very infrequently and 2) DC can not get it into the endzone and teams started past the 25 almost all the time against us. So hey, I'm all for it.

Great for the Dolphins, terrible for the league. Gotta love how the NFL is becoming more and more of a joke.

The NFL is trying to turn the game into a high scoring arena style game.

As others have said, this benefits us but it takes a lot away from the game for no good reason.

I'm back again to say this rule sucks. Sorry, but most kickoffs now are easily going into the endzone. Who's going to bring it out when you already get the 20 and you are 5 yards deep? It's a gamble and most of the time they will kneel it. "The players are more safe." Maybe, maybe not. But now you have given the kickoff team the total advantage. Lame.
