This is a result of the "offensive minded push" we have seen in sports over the past few years... they want points, they want speed.. who would have wondered adding more distance and speed for NFL players would have resulted in increased injuries....
To be honest, undoing this rule and reverting back to the 1994 kickoff spot doesnt really bother me too much.
What I dont understand is the logic behind allowing receivers to run freely. Not allowing defenders to touch them...
It is no coincidence that the level of hard hits to "defenseless receivers' has gone up since the NFL disallowed putting a finger on wide receivers...
When you cannot impede an athlete at all, and he is allowed to run as fast as he can at all times, catastrophic collisions are going to occur more often.
But, "player safety" is what the NFL is aiming for.....
obviously not, its all about points.
The one positive thing that comes out of these new rule changes is the only rule that wasn't passed yet out of the 5.
By not hastily putting out a rule that basically bans any type of hit, and actually taking time to deliberate and come up with a better solution, was the best rule decision.
Hopefully the NFL will listen to what THE PLAYERS are saying, to not change THEIR game. The NFL is a violent game by nature, its what they signed up for, and its what they are paid millions upon millions of dollars to do. They know it, they publicly say it, and hopefully the NFL will listen.
