The Official 2006 New York Yankees Thread!

I don't know about his MVP in tex but he didin't deserve it last year. last year Grape Ape did but w/ his team going down the toilet and w/ jeter guiding the yanks to another Div title despite all the injuries and stepping up when ARod couldn't he deserves the MVP but you know what's great? jeter doesn't publicly whine about the MVP race, he's worried about team goals and he dosnt' throw his teammates under the bus trying to get more MVP votes.

Exactly. You know darn well if the Yankees were in the Red Sox shoes that Jeter would say "I don't deserve MVP because our team isn't going to the playoffs." Jeter's all about winning, end of discussion. Even when the Yankees took over best record in the AL from the Tigers Jeter basically said "we still haven't accomplished anything." That's Jeter all the way, winning first, everything else second!

anyone read that article on ESPN with Ortiz crying about the MVP. Give me a friggin break. I have lost all respect for this guy. Only concerned about his stats and himself. Has Boston been eliminated yet???????? Yet this guy is just worried about himself and personal awards!

Someone should also tell Ortiz there is more to baseball than home runs and RBI's. If he wants an MVP so bad, then pick up a glove and play first base since you know thats what it takes to get the award!

Jeter will win it this year and its gonna be great. Arod and Jeter back to back with Ortiz playing 2nd fiddle to both each year.

Exactly. I didn't hear anyone complain when Ichiro won it yet Giambi trumped him in those statistics and had a higher BA then Ortiz has now. Ortiz can have it though, he really can. The only thing that matters is the division and last time I checked, THE YANKEES WERE 10 1/2 GAMES UP!

The season is over for Ortiz, the redsox aren't going to the playoffs, so who cares if he's trying to get the MVP. If they were in the thick of the race then ya i can see the problem, but their not in the race.

Ortiz said:
"Don't get me wrong -- he's a great player, having a great season, but he's got a lot of guys in that lineup," Ortiz said of Jeter. "Top to bottom, you've got a guy who can hurt you. Come hit in this lineup, see how good you can be."

Jeter said:
"I'm not thinking about the MVP right now," he told reporters Monday. "We're thinking about winning a division. We've still got something to play for."
He then added, "No one here's focused on individual awards."

They haven't been eliminated yet and it isn't that far fetched for them to comeback here and get the wild card. Is it likely, no. But you don't just quit in early Septmeber. Sorry. It isn't like they are 30 games out!!!!

Tonight was awesome. I was watching the game in SNY's newsroom and all the Yankee fans applauded when Matsui got that first hit. Abreu was on fire today also, Moose looked sharp, and Jeter was scored 3 runs without getting a hit. Magic number is down to 9 and this team is peaking at the right time. I am very confident in this team right now. They SHOULD be representing the AL in the World Series. Whether they will or not remains to be seen but their the best team in the AL right now, hands down (maybe even baseball but I think the Mets are just as good so I won't go there yet)!

Welcome Back!

That bit*h Ortiz is on ESPN now backpedaling like I haven't seen anyone backpedal before!!

Nobody gets misquoted to the extent he is claiming. This guy just couldn't take the heat that came along with taking a shot at Jeter. He didn't know the fire storm it would start. So, its time to do some damage control. He needs to stand by what he said and not be a 2-faced, spinless, asssssss-clown.

What a bum.

don't look now........but AROD is really heating up. BIG-TIME here.

With all of the attention now being moved to......

Matsui return
Jeter hit streak and MVP win on the horizon
Sheffield's return in about a week

AROD has all of the pressure off of him, and he could be on the verge of going on a monster tear here. IN fact I think he might be currently at the begining of it as we speak
