The Official 2006 New York Yankees Thread!

Gordon has been lights out in that Philly bandbox, much needed bullpen help as well. If Cashman can do it pull the trigger.

It wouldn't be a bad move for the Yankees, as Gordon has been a good set up man for them in the past.

I think it would be funny for them to pick Gordon back up after saying he wasn't worth 3 years or the money due to his age and instead giving big money and years to Farnsworth. But hey they got to make the move to try and help out their pen.

Technically it would now be 2 1/2 years and I think the main reason he didn't re-sign was b/c he wantd to be a closer. He either wantd to be blown away(he wasn't blown away by Philly either) to be a setup man or he'd find a closer job somewhere.

anyone think Ponson was a decent pickup? cant really hurt IMO

can eat up innings in the regular season and a decent 5th starter.

Cost us nothing to get him

Exactly. He has experience pitching against the AL and in the playoffs (although the results haven't been great but he has shown flashes at times) but he's a better bet than Wilson or Small. This move really shows the Yankees have soured on Chacon big time, I figured they would give him another chance but it looks like he's more or less gone soon.

This dude could eat a small country if given the green light. He has also had much off the field problems....He is the John Daily of MLB. Sorry, not much of a pick-up IMO.
Of course if you guys are able to pick up "Flash" Gordon-now that is a nice pickup...
But Sidney Ponson:shakeno:

Seattle wants Chacon bad. Why I don't know.

Chacon becuase of his age and contract has some value on the trade market. He will be traded.

It didn't cost us much so it's worth a shot. Everyone said Chacon couldn't pitch here and we caught ligtning in a bottle last year so maybe it happens again? it's a gamble worth taking.

Agreed 100 percent. I like Chacon but let's face it, even if he's throwing shut out baseball he never gets out of the 5th and having 2 pitchers like that in our rotation (including Wright) is detrimental to this ball club. Maybe Ponson is good, maybe he's horrible but you know what, he's worth the gamble and since the Yankees aren't giving up Hughes, it's going to take a Ponson type to fill in the gap since their not going to make a big splash for a good starter!

Looks like a big night.

Yanks win
White Sox lose
Red Sox losing in the 8th
Tigers losing in the 7th.

We might pick up a game on everyone. Give me about 10 more nights like this and the 2nd half of the season will be very relaxing! LOL

The Royals blew ti so Det won but at least we are just 1 out of the East in the L column and 4 out in the AL column from Chi.

The Ponson move wasn't bad. He's certainly no worse than some of the other stiffs they've trotted out in the 5th spot.

If I were a Yankees fan, I'd be giving thanks that they're just 1.5 back of the Red Sox with Sheffield and Matsui out, and A-Rod underachieving slightly. Another starter would be helpful, but it's too much of a seller's market for them to get quality without paying through the nose. What they really need is another bat, whether that's a return to the lineup by Sheff, or whatever.
