The Official 2006 New York Yankees Thread!

Carlos Lee just got traded to Texas. There goes an OF option for the Yankees. Personally I don't think they need to get a big time OFer but I'm guessing Bobby Abreu will be in NY by Monday.

He was NEVER an option for NY.

Oakland, Minnesota, and LAA were in the Lee sweepstakes.

Oh my bad, I thought he was. Anyway I think the Yankees are better off without him due to his bad OF D.

What moves do you see the Yankees making Mike? Any?

John Leiber or a mid-level pitcher on that level maybe. But that's it.

Why make a trade? Since the All Star break we have taken over the Wild Card lead and put ourslevels on Boston's assssssssss! Matsui might be back by the August Red Sox series in Fenway. Sheff will be back in Sep. And Cano will be back in 10-14 days. 3 studs right there, throw in Dotel and Pavano and this team could have 5 guys back come September.

This team is winning with what they have and I don't see anything huge going down.

Yeah I agree with you, except the Yankees might not want to count on Matsui or Sheffield being 100%. Just look at Derrek Lee. Wrist injuries are a tough on hitting.

So scratch them both, this team is still winning without them. If we even get 1 of the 2 back at 75% to just be a full time DH we will be in good shape.

Bottom line is this is an old team. We need to re-load and get younger. And trading away young guys isn't very smart right now. If we don't make the playoffs it wouldn't be the end of the world. I know everyone looks at the payroll, but bottom line is 10 years of playoffs. 4 WS titles in 6 WS apperances. They are entitled a year off. And the fact they lost 200 RBI's and 2 ALL STAR outfielders this year and you can't bash them too much if they do fall short of the playoffs.

Hughes isn't getting traded. Melky probably won't either. Duncan could, but I doubt it. The reality is, the team we are looking at now will be the team that either gets us in the playoffs or comes up short. I don't see anything major happening (unless Philly just hands us Abreu to unload that contract, and Abreu accepts coming to NY without an extension). Which as of today I don't see happening.

We are trying to get younger and trading younger guys for a quick fix isn't the answer. Bernie and Sheff are gone next year, we can't be trading away Melky right now. Hughes isn't going anywhere and could be in the rotation next spring.

I was curious if you Yankee fans would rather still have Soriano instead of Rodriguez? How do the locals feel about it? I'm not saying Soriano > Rodriguez or anything I'm just wondering.

I'd rather have Rodriguez over Soriano, but if there were some way I'd love to get Soriano back

people forget how bad Sori was for us in the postseason and he was not a good defensive 2B. In his 1st postseason he came up big for us in '01(would have been the WS hero if the unthinkable didn't happen and Mo blew Game 7) but he was atrocious in '02 and '03 in postseason.
