On most nights when the Red Sox are on the road, and I'd agree.

But at least the Red Sox are trying to address their problems with talks of Scott Linebrink, instead of adding another bat which won't help them.

It's gonna help them NEXT year when Sheff is gone :shakeno: :shakeno:

This trade isn't just for now, its a long term trade!!!

Fantastic, and how are they going to win in the short term?

Can't outscore everyone in October..

Cory Lidle will shore up the starting pitching.. I have a hard time believing the Yanks think they have enough pitching, but this was a good deal for them long-term since the Phils were in a bad spot. They better get big leads in games when bring in Proctor, or Beam in the 7th inning..

Cory Lidle? Are you kidding me?

Let's hope the Yankees are counting on him.

I'll take Wright over Beckett most nights this past summer
He said " most nights this summer "

You could make that argument for any player anywhere!

But even so "most" is a stretch at best! Homer alert! He leads the MLB in Ws!

Yes I too found that to be a funny comment...

I just got back from the game and a nice amount of the fans are still against A-Rod. He got a ton of boo's again today and still doesn't seem like he's turned the page. Moose was great aside from the top of the 4th and in the heat it made a lot of people irritable. It was hot and that half inning seemed to last forever. Damon was the truth today, taking 2 homers into the upper deck. It was good for him to bail the offense out cause they looked sluggish again. The fans were dead today because of the heat and in cases when you can usually see the whole stadium on their feet, it wasn't the case today and the only time the whole stadium was on their feet was when Mariano was closing it out!

As far as Abreu goes, it's a great deal for the Yankees. They don't have to pick up his option for 08, they gave away a shortstop who wouldn't have made it to the bigs with Jeter still locked up for a few years anyways, they gave up a 27 year old reliever who is average IMO, and a pitcher and a catcher. The Yankees had no room for this catcher anyways because they just signed some kid from Venezuela I believe who is supposed to be a serious player in a few years so at the end of the day they didn't give up anything and kept other pieces they could use in a seperate move if they choose to without having to part with Hughes or Tabata. Proctor, Chacon, Melky (who I hope they keep), Beam, and a few others that may be able to fetch the Yankees a decent arm for the bullpen (I said may so I don't want no one jumping down my throat), so we'll see what happens. As far as Lidle goes, who cares. If he comes here and does good he'll be an asset, if he doesn't then who cares, it won't hurt the Yankees none anyways because they haven't had a decent 4th or 5th starter as is so it's a not lose situation. Either way I think Abreu was a solid pick-up and I think a lot of his lack of production has to do more with all the trade speculation surrounding him since Matsui and Sheffield went down and less with it being that his skills are declining. He won a gold glove last year and something people are over-looking is that he has 20 stolen bases so he'll help on the basepaths also. When Cano gets back, our line-up is going to look good even before Sheff and Matsui make their way back (if they do at all)!

The kid from Venezuela is being moved out of the catching position because he's not a very good defensive catcher and doesn't have a strong arm. I believe they're going to convert him into a 1st basemen.

I haven't heard that so I'm going to stay under the assumption that he's going to catch. He's real young so I don't understand why the Yankees would give up on him as a catch already but baseball guys in the Yankees organization no more so I'll leave it up to them. You gotta a link to an article or an audio that states their moving this kid from catcher cause from everything I heard he's a great catcher!

Yeah I read it somewhere, I'll look for it now.

True. Gotta play who ya have. It isn't like teams are out there handing out starting pitchers for nothing.

Doesn't mean this STILL isn't a good trade. :shakeno: :shakeno: :shakeno: :shakeno:

I love this move for the yanks -- so what lidle is a fill in and seriously has had better outings than fat boy ponson. Abreu was a puzzle piece we needed. With shef probabyl not coming back next yr it was imperative to get someone in there. I like the sooner rather than later theory. We gave up NADDA for either one and it almost makes me sick to listen to red sox fans say stuff like the yanks are ruining baseball. The red sox were trying to make this trade too. they wanted abreu as bad as the yanks did.
