The Official 2006 New York Yankees Thread!

Not only that but according to the New York Times, "there is a widespread perception in the Yankees’ clubhouse that Carl Pavano simply does not want to pitch."

This was posted before the news of the car accident happened though.

I was hesitant to say the red Sox were dead even as bad as they have played they have been a team that never dies in recent years but w/ the lead now 8 in the L column and w/ an Ortiz medical scare( http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=ArLj77PMZZeAST6Wv2OTOzcRvLYF?slug=ap-redsox-injuries&prov=ap&type=lgns ) I think we can proclaim the race over.

With Manny dinged up and Ortiz and his problems. It's over.

I will say this, everyone talks about pitching with them and all. And YES they must improve their pitching and bullpen (every team does though). But, priority #1 for them should be to add another BIG BAT to put behind Manny. To have a 3-4-5 combo in their lineup. Giving Manny no protection, teams are just gonna start walking him cause they have nobody to make them pay. Teams have seen enough of Manny and Ortiz beating them and now they are getting walked way too much in big spots (like the NY series, I think NY walked Manny 7 times and nobody made NY pay once for it)

100% right. Sorry but Trot Nixon, Jason Varitek, Kevin Youkilis or Mike Lowell are not the answer. Wily Mo could be a good choice if he cuts down on his Ks and GIDP however Francona hates him for some reason and never bats him higher that 7th for some stupid reason.

The Sox have a very long winter ahead of them.

Willly Mo isn't the answer if you want to win a championship.

Also, Coco Crisp might go the way of Renteria and be a 1 and done. They calimed all offseason that he was better than Damon. Then in a 5 game series he goes 1-18. While Damon was running around the bases like it was a sandlot game knocking in 40 runs and scoring 40 runs it seems like!!!!!!

I could see Tori Hunter or Vernon Wells in Boston and Crisp goooooooooooooone!!!

I think Wily Mo has potential to be a big time power hitter. But he's still young and developing.

Yeah Coco could be done in Boston. It'll be interesting to see what happens there. Either his injury during the season really got to him or he just can't handle it in Boston or both. I'm surprised he's done so poorly. I wasn't expecting Damon numbers from him but I was expecting at least something from him.

If the Sox can get Vernon Wells I'D JUMP AT THAT CHANCE. The guy is a pure stud. But he's got 1 more year left on the contract and I doubt the Jays would trade him within the division. Maybe a 3 team deal? MY guess is he'll be resign by the Jays. He's just to good to be let go.

Willy Mo is fine......but he can't protect Manny in the lineup. That job must go to a stud. A big-time hitter. Sign Sheffield!! lol, seriously....that would be wise. Hypocritical since you wouldn't give big bucks to Damon and Pedro cause of their age, but who cares......look hypocritical if it means winning!

Tori Hunter makes perfect sense. Then maybe pawn Coco off on somene else for pitching.

J.P. Riccardi is trying to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox so I couldn't see him trading Wells to the Red Sox even in a 3 trade, especially if the Blue Jays end up in 2nd place (not a shot at Red Sox fans). I think this is the year that the Red Sox finally cut ties with Manny. I know it sounds crazy and there's always the argument that you won't get equal return in a trade but I have a feeling that he's gone this winter. As far as Willy Mo, he has potential but not through the roof potential. He has the potential to be a border line all-star IMO (meaning he may have a year or two when he makes it but won't be perrenial). The Red Sox need to add bats and destroy the pitching staff and rebuild it. As bad as their starters and bullpen have been, their bats have been equally as horrible. Next year they need 3 new starting pitchers (to go along with Beckett and Schilling next year) and need to clean the bullpen out aside from Hansen, Delcarmen, and Papelbon. Then like MikeO said, they need to add another huge bat to that line-up (Andruw Jones sounds good) and I think they will be fine. I mean last night's line-up was a shell of the team and they need to get rid of a lot of dead weight and start fresh!

Now back to the Yankees. I hope they get tonight's game in. Although it looks bleak, tonight is a huge game and Wang is going to be put to the test in what is going to essentially be a playoff game. It's going to be interesting!

Oh where to begin. Yes I agree with everything both you and MikeO said, completely no arguements from me.

I don't think Wells is going anywhere. The Jays will lock him up over the winter. But hey a guy can still dream no?

The rotation is pretty much set for next year in Schilling, Beckett, Wakefield, Lester and Clement. However that doesn't and shouldn't mean the Sox shouldn't try to get fresh talent in. A source told me when I was up at Fenway a week ago that the Sox are targeting Peavy and Oswalt during the offseason instead of throwing money at Zito, Schmidt etc. I think the Sox are going to try and trade Clement and eat at least half of the salary, which I can see a team doing but you won't get much from him. If the Sox get 1 of those pitchers they have a rotation of Schilling, Beckett, Lester, Wakefield and Oswalt/Peavy which is a pretty good rotation. There is still talk of Papelbon and what to do with him in the rotation so who knows.

The bullpen is a mess and Papelbon, Hansen, Delcarmen and Breslow should be the only guys back with the team. Maybe sign a Gagne or Danys Baenz with tons of bonuses involved.

As for the line up I don't think they can move Manny. As Ortiz hasn't gotten a pitch to hit in a week since he's been out. I have no idea what they're going to do for a big bat. Andruw Jones is a nice option though if they can't land Wells. Pedroia will be the 2nd baseman next year, Youk the 1st or 3rd baseman, Ortiz at DH, Tek catching and Manny in LF. Other than that it's a toss up.

.

They can get Oswalt. Peavy won't be traded. Schmidt is going home to Seattle. Zito could be had too I think. But Peavy won't be moved and Schmidt won't go to Boston. He's a west coast guy.

They could have Oswalt now but they refused to part with any of these kids. Building from within in that city and fanbase might blow up in their face and if they end up with none of the guys I mentioned above they will kick themselves for not pulling the trigger on Oswalt this past July.
