It was the WORLD SERIES! 1 strike away from winning it all.

4 games was the ALCS, only a chance to play for the world series!!! No guarntee that anyone would win in the world series.
 
A 2 run lead in the 10th inning of game 6 and a 3 run lead in the 6th of game 7, not to mention a 2-0 series lead which they got at Shea. That's an all-time choke and as big a choke as '04 was for the Yanks(don't you love when Sox fans call it a huge choke? To me that says the Yanks lost it more than the Sox won it and it takes credit away from the Sox) it wasn't in the WS.

any choke IN the world series will always be bigger than choking in a series PRIOR to the world series.

It's just that simple. If everyone takes a step back and look at it objectivly its clear as day.

Come on junc, you're better than that. It doesn't take any credit away from the Sox. If you use that logic than the 1986 WS wasn't a huge choke because the Sox lost it more than the Mets won it, ditto for the 2003 series.

Do you actually read the thread before you post? This discussion was about the Red Sox current ownership. They weren't in control of the franchise in 2000 and/or 1927.

That was a huge 8th inning for the Yanks tonight, they looked dead up until that inning. Wang won't get the win (and he really didn't deserve it) but the Yankees did which is the most important thing right now. The more games they win, the quicker they'll be able to rest guys and start getting things in order for the playoffs. All I can say is that Johnny Damon and Abreu are beasts and really came through big in the 8th after Jorge got the Yankees back in the game with that 2 run homer. By the way, Jeter is like 2 points away from Mauer for the AL batting title!

What no love for Robbie Cano? That kid is a really good hitter. If he didn't get hurt maybe he'd be in the mix fighting with Jeter and Mauer for the batting title. Although it's only a matter of time until he gets one, in my opinion. Unbelieveble what a good hitter that kid is and how no one wanted him.

Your right, Cano is going to be a real good player (he actually is already) but the reason I didn't give him a shout is because his homer was icing on the cake tonight, Johnny and Abreu's hits tied the game and gave the Yankees the lead so that's why I gave them the most props. Either way though, Cano is going to be a monster. He's really started to show power since he came off the DL and I think when he peaks he'll be hitting 25/30 homers. Add to that the fact that his defense is gold glove calibar and I think the Yankees have found a diamond in the rough. I have not seen him make the same bonehead plays he made last year trying to show off which is a sign that he's maturing, a sign Yankees fans love to see. Plus he played real well in the playoffs last year so it shows he's not scared of the big stage!

I agree with everything you said except that he has gold glove calibar defense. He isn't there yet but he has made some extremely nice plays (especially recently) so it shows he's obviously working on his fielding.

I'm actually a big Cano fan. I think he could be a superstar in the making.

I do think when Sox fans harp on the choke it takes away from what their team did, when i discuss '03 I don't focus on the choke. I focus on another gritty comeback of a proud former Champion.

I agree '04 was a huge choke no matter what way you look at it but I always give credit to a Sox team that never quit, it would have been easy for them to say "here we go again" but they didn't and they came back inn historic fashion.

do I think '04 could be the biggest choke of all time? Maybe it could, I think it falls behind a few others but it's up there. The problem is people act like that 1 choke erases the 26 Championships when in reality it was 1 bad series, if we never won then it would have been hard to take for instance if that was a Jets choke in the AFC Title Game I'd be in a mental institution banging my head against a wall right now but since the yanks have won so mcuh it made it easier to get over that alot quicker.
