The Official 2006 New York Yankees Thread!

Tonight was a perfect example of why you can't blame the Yankees for spending the money they make. Look at the Twins tonight. 18,000 for a playoff clinching game. The Twins fans, like many small market fans cry poor and wonder why they can't sign the big free agents but fail to show up and support the team when they've over-achieved and are in the playoffs. This is a joke. Every one criticizes the Yankees but let's face it, the ballpark is always packed and the Yankees make money because of this (also because of YES but i'm just talking in ticket sales and merchandise, things like that). Every one criticizes the Yankees for having such a high payroll but no one commends them on spending to put a quality product on the field and investing the money they make back on the field. Twins fans should start buying tickets and pumping money back into the team (like many other teams needs their fans to do) but worst of all they should be ashamed of themselves after tonight's attendence. This franchise is no longer allowed to cry poor anymore when they fail to deliever a player to their franchise because tonight was a disgraceful showing by their fan base!

yeah cuz minnesota is the same as new york oh wait new york has a 100 times more people living there so ur right the yankees should be commended for being in the biggest market lol ok

and we have ANOTHER MLB team plus 8 more major pro sports teams AND we have a million more things to do to spend your entertainment dollar on. The lack of people excuse is weak especially when they scaled down the Dome taking away thousands of seats so they could sell out more AND they have drawn 3 mil people in the past. Why could they do it 18 years ago and not now?

Good Points. Minneapolis isn't exactly a small city and the team has been there for years (meaning they should have an established fan base) so I can't understand how they only drew 18 K for a game that clinched them a playoff birth. It's pathetic and no one can sugar coat that. Plus, being that their a small market team you would think the people would appreciate this playoff run a little more, especially considering how the team started. I mean this isn't a team of nobody's. Santana is going to win the CY Young, Mauer is going to win the batting title, Nathan has become one of the best closers in the game, and Morneau is in the MVP running. What exactly is this team missing that makes people not show up to the ballpark?

 Great points! Let's not forget........the RICHEST OWNER IN MLB!!!!!

Nobody will be able to have a comeback for all of those points.

Your wrong, Dob will be here any minute complaining about the Yankees payroll. I would venture to say that half his posts have mentioned the Yankees payroll in one form or another!

:yeahthat:

at some point the MODS will have to step in on dob's posts around here. It's just SPAM and FLAMMING at this point.

He shouldn't ruin all of these threads with the same point over and over with the playoffs about to start. The most exciting time of the year for baseball fans everywhere, especially here in this part of the message board. He's made his point. Enough is enough.

Go back and look at his posts and see how many of them are just flaming the Yankees. It's pathetic. The really pathetic part about it is that he's a Marlins fan who beat us in 2003, so why the animosity? We barely ever play the Marlins (and when we do it's for 3 games) and we don't play in their division so I don't understand his anger. I'm just going to chalk it up to immaturity and insecurity!

not as pathhetic as the yankees needed the highest payroll sports history to win

it has nothing to do with being a marlins fan it has to do with being a baseball fan and since the yankees are killing baseball i dislike them

So the Yankees should just pocket all the money they make and field a bunch of minor leaguers like the Marlins (before Marlins fans attack me I don't mean that the Marlins play like minor leaguers I am pointing out the fact that a ton of the Marlins were straight from the minor leagues this year)? Yeah, that would really turn their fans on. Yankee Stadium would be even more emptier then Dolphins Stadium when the Marlins play if they did that. I bet ratings would be through the roof on YES if they did that too. Plus the Yankees don't need to highest payroll to win, they need it to continue to make money and draw 4 million people to the Bronx to watch them play. You ever hear the expression "scared money don't make money." ? It means if your scared to throw your money down, you won't make any. If the Yankees don't spend their money and do things to attract fans, the fans won't come, just like with the Marlins. Do the Yankees over-spend, no doubt they probably do but every other team has the same luxary of doing so and it's their choice whether they do or not, end of story.

As far as the Yankees killing baseball, you couldn't be more wrong. It's franchises like the Marlins that are killing baseball because they don't spend the money neccesary to compete, don't attract fans, and then cry poor when things don't go right for them. And don't blame the Yankees for this, blame Bud Selig and the owners (including the Marlins owner) who refuse to implement a salary cap. The Yankees don't make the rules, they just play by them. You act like the Yankees created baseball or something. Your the most insecure dude I've ever seen in my life. :boohoo: :boohoo: :boohoo: Stop whining about the Yankees and go spend some of your minimum wage money on a Marlins ticket!

By the way, this was no shot at the Marlins fans or organization. Most of the Marlins fans on here I respect and I think they had a hell of a year with all things considered!

i think it has more to do with people giving up on baseball all togethere cuz of teams like the yankees

baseball itself is losing interest in all of the smaller markets(its doing big bussniess in the biggers markets like l.a. and new york thou) where attendance has been going down and ratings are record lows

just like that other guy pointed out they use to draw big

but they still lost there key free agents and still look at there team has having no shot

so even if the team is doing good i'm sure they think whats the point where just gonna lose everybody next year or and have having no shot anyway

even when they were going they couldn't keep there stars so why go atleast that what i think
