Freitas vs. Raheem

Did anyone watch this fight? Freitas is a nice fighter, but didnt look like his old self. Raheem has a nice jab and is pretty damn quick, but he was lookin weird sometimes? that was an awkward fight to say the least. But, who won?

My personal opinion is Raheem won this fight, Freitas seemed like he dictated the fight, but Raheem landed solid punches, which i dont think Freitas did at all. Infact he didnt seem to land many punches at all, always just off. He did land a few, but i felt like he definitely got out punched, which showed up in the stats when it was over. Raheem landed more punches and more power punches, so how did Freitas win? Maybe because he dictated the fight, and Raheem never really followed anything up.

Thoughts?

I saw the fight on Saturday night. I thought Raheem landed the cleaner shots but I think what took away from his performance was the constant hugging and the way he kept falling to the canvas every time he was done hugging inside. Raheem is a good counter puncher but he's got to learn to be more aggressive. I honestly thought the fight could have gone either way. I thought Freitas got the benefit of the doubt because he pressed the action and brought the fight to Raheem as opposed to Raheem who was jut waiting to counter whatever Freitas threw. I didn't score it but it was close. I thought Raheem controlled the middle of the fight while Freitas stole a lot of rounds early and late. Raheem has solid defense and I agree 100 percent with you that he landed the harder, cleaner blows but I think Freitas got the benefit of the doubt because he was bringing the fight to Raheem and I think Raheem's hugging was his downfall because Freitas seemed like he wanted to fight inside while Raheem didn't. Either way it is what it is and I looked at the fight more as a draw then as either coming out a winner because neither did enough IMO!

Man did anyone see Sam Peter destroy Lulius Long in 2 minutes on FNF? Dude drops BOMBS.

Allen Green almost got caught slippin on wednesday too. He was hurt badly, a better fighter would have finished him off easily.

Yanks when are you having Guinn on your show?

Not sure when he'll be coming on I'm still waiting for my guy Ernie from maxboxing (he sets up all my interviews regarding the boxing world) to let me know what's up, plus I might be switching this weeks show from Tuesday to Thursday which has caused some riff in my scheduling. Either way as soon as I know I will let you know and if you have anything you'd like to ask him, let me know. Not sure if you heard my Paul Malignaggi interview but he'll be fighting Miguel Cotto on June 10th. Anyways if u want audio to that or to any of the other boxing writers I'v interviewed (Steve Kim, Bill Emes, Tom Gerbasi, ect) let me know and I'll get the audio up. The Steve Kim interview was great. He's one of the most insightful writers/boxing broadcasters in the game right now and not to toot my own horn but the interview is a must hear from the sense that this guy is just so intelligent about the sport it isn't even funny!

Yea, i would have to agree, neither did anything to win the fight really. Raheem really dipped low alot, going to the canvas a couple times, i think that may have hurt him, along with like you said him clutching.

May 6th is a couple nice fights coming up. We got De La Hoya and Mayorga, then Garcia and Rivera.

There's only two ways I see the De La Hoya-Mayorga fight going. # 1, a Mayorga knockout or # 2, a De La Hoya unanimous. At 154, De La Hoya has not shown the power and Mayorga's chin is up there with the best, so I just can't see De La Hoya knocking him out even if he lands his best shot (Tito couldn't knockout Mayorga, the ref stopped it and he was landing bombs and is way more powerful then Oscar). If Oscar can avoid getting caught in the first half of the fight the fight is his. I heard Mayorga is training harder then ever for the fight but he will be gassing halfway through not because he isn't conditioned (which even if he is he's a smoker so his lungs have taken a beating) but because he throws with such recklessness that it takes so much out him. As soon as that happens the only punches he will throw will be those wild shots (one punch at a time) and Oscar will easily jab his way to victory. But you never know, Mayorga is more the capable then landing that big shot on Oscar and taking the fight. This is at least how I see it going. It's going to be fun Saturday night, when Oscar fights, it's always a fun event. I'm pullijng big time for Oscar because I want to see him fight Mayweather Jr. I think that fight will help bring boxing to a lot of fans who forgot about the sport. It's ashame too, the sport is having one of it's best summers in terms of match-ups!

This one was bizarre even by boxing's loose standards. Junior middleweight title-holder Ricardo Mayorga, unhappy with his $2 million purse, threatened Wednesday to pull out of Saturday night's defense against Oscar De La Hoya unless he is paid $8 million, leaving the HBO PPV fight in limbo.

But Mayorga waited until Wednesday's final news conference was over to make his announcement. Moments after the news conference had broken up, Mayorga picked up his microphone and said he wasn't going to fight unless he got the money he thought had been promised to him.

Although the fight figures to go on as planned, it was the end of what had already been a surreal scene.

The news conference inside the MGM Grand's Fox Theater began almost two hours late with no word as to why. When it did, De La Hoya, his camp, undercard fighters, their teams and casino executives all took their seats.

Mayorga, his team and his promoter, Don King, were absent, but they carried on the program with barely a reference to the missing champion.

why the hell are you waiting 3 days before the fight? :rolleyes2

Fight On

Tony Gonzalez, Ricardo Mayorga's attorney and adviser, said Thursday that the fight against Oscar De La Hoya on Saturday night in Las Vegas "is on."
Mayorga had threatened Wednesday to pull out of the fight because he was unhappy with his $2 million purse. Mayorga said promoter Don King had promised him $8 million, which King denied.

"The fight is on," said De La Hoya, who will be looking to add another world championship belt to his trophy case in the long awaited "Danger Zone" main event. "I'm ready, Mayorga's ready, and we're going to go to war on Saturday.

"I know he wants to get at me as bad as I want to get at him, and nothing's going to stop this fight from happening. I will not be denied my victory."

Raheem/Freitas should have been a draw at the very least.

Although I had Raheem winning the fight. LOoked liked FReitas was just loading up on shots from the outside after the 4th round and had no real plan.

WTF was the judge who had it 116-112 for Freitas watching?:shakeno:

ricky hatton is the welterweight john ruiz. stop f*ckin holdin. collazo shoulda won that.

I was very unimpressed with Hatton tonight. I didn't score the fight but if I was to just pick a winner based on watching it I would go with Collazo. If he thinks he can hang with Floyd after the way Collazo beat him up, he's out of his mind. I think the boxing experts are giving Hatton to much credit for beating Tszyu. If Hatton is going to be a serious champion, it's not going to be at welterweight, he's to small. Either Hatton goes back down and fights jr. welterweight or he is going to be over-powered and out sized at welterweight. Hatton showed a great chin tonight and Callazo isn't exactly a pushover, but with all the hype surrouding Hatton and the huge HBO contract he signed, I expected more. Floyd has destructed much superior competition then Collazo and nothing I saw tonight convinced me that # 1 Hatton deserves a fight with De La Hoya or Oscar and # 2 he's big enough to hang with the top welterweights!

How exactly can you give a guy too much credit for humiliating and dominating Kostya Tszyu thus forcing him to quit? He's only been one of the 5 best fighters of the last 10 years. And who's overhyped him in the states? HBO signed him to a big contract, just like they did when guys like Shane Mosley, Tito Trinidad, etc.. became true champions at their respective weight classes in and around the 140 range. HBO also has had contracts with Cotto, PBF, Gatti, the other moneymakers at that weight. Collazo is a smart, techinical SOUTHPAW who is natural at the weight, raised at Gleasons who can in with a better plan that Ricky. Still a razor close fight that Ricky won. People seem to forget that at Floyds natural and best weight class he was in 2 close, controversial fights with a slower-footed pressure fighter. I heavily favor FLoyd if and when he gets into the ring with Hatton but that has nothing to do with the Collazo performace, bc the fights will be in no way similiar.
