The Patriots after DeSean Jackson how does that effect your Dolphins FA outlook.

With the reality of Brady being gone in 3-4 years (with a good chance of his play declining even before then), New England should have the same mindset Denver does. Play everything out for the present, win now, and go hard in free agency, be extremely aggressive in the draft. These two teams shouldn't have a primary focus on the future. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see New England land Desean.

It does not matter to me one way or the other. Considering FA has pretty much just started, the draft is still on the horizon, and teams will eventually start cutting players, we really have no idea who did best in the off-season until after summer. In the NFL things happen fast, and seem to come out of left field...things that could instantaneously push Miami into discussions of overtaking the Pats, like:

1.Hickey has a great 1st draft for Miami.

2. Jimmy Graham allowed into FA, and eventually on Miami Roster.

3.Miami is able to acquire Mack for the O-line.

4. Special or talented player(s) not in play right now, later in the off-season become available because of trade or being Cut.

5. Players right now on Miami's roster, hit their mark this year in camp, and become a huge factor during the season.

6. Injuries start hitting the Patriots to the point, where all the moves they have made, become useless to their team.

I will wait and see how all this plays out before starting to worry, or feel the Patriots are pulling away....age is against the Patriots, and age is a tough opponent to beat.

My thoughts have always been... Drafts are question marks at best and Miami has not done to well in the last decade. I hope our new GM hits a few picks each of the next few seasons. But even then you really can only hope to land 1-2 good players from the draft in most cases.

So, yes... I am always willing to trade away draft picks for proven players in their prime. It cost more from the cap for them, but it is worth it in most cases. I would have no issue with Miami offering our 2nd round pick for DJAX. Then let either DJAX or Wallace play in the slot with the other as the #1 and Hartline #2. We have the cap room for both and the cap can be managed for having 3-4 stars on a team making bank.

Gotta think that having two deep threats like Wallace and DJAX would open up so much for Hartline, Clay, and yes our running game. We could still move Wallace in a year or two, if he does not improve on his play. Wallace is 2nd tier to a player like DJAX. Sure DJAX is a headcase diva... But then again most star WR's are divas.

It will not happen... If DJAX is moved it will be to a team not named Miami.

It just never ends....they get playmakers and we get guys that will try to compete for a starting job, all of this while we have more cap space than them....smh

Ozzy rules!!

Funny how many claim they don't care what the Pats do.
Do yall realize they are in our division and have won it every year Brady has been healthy?
I sure as hell care what they do! We are looking up at them every year, and the only way to win the division is to be better than them.

To those saying Jackson wouldn't work bc of Brady's lack of a deep ball..LOL You don't think Jackson is a huuuuge upgrade over Tomkins, Edelman, Amendola etc lol

The best way to build a team is through the draft, always has been. Which is my biggest reason that Ireland failed. If Hickey drafts well, then the team will compete for a wild card, if not, they win 5 or 6 games and he and Philbin both probably go packing and Ross tries to trade for Harbaugh. If Hickey does draft well, and if he can do it two years in a row...than we have a team that can maybe take over the division and maybe the conference after Brady/Manning starts to fall apart like Favre did at the end. I do hope they are saving some of this money to roll over to next season so they can extend Tannehill if he has that breakout year we are all hoping for. Because if he does, it'll be pricey. See what Kaepernick laughably thinks he's worth right now. Imagine what Luck and Tanny are going to want.....?

We aren't behind the pats because of what THEY have (brady), we are behind them because of what we DON'T have (PLAYMAKERS on offense) who we avoid like the plague and let them take away from us.

When we let go of the inside-out, defense-first fetish that has destroyed this franchise for the last 15+ years, we will be ahead of the pats again.

No one in the league (especially belicheat) really cares much that we signed Albert or Smith. If we get Desean Jackson it will TURN THEIR HEADS.

Free agency and the draft have nothing to do with one another (unless you trade draft picks for free agent which isn't anything I suggested). I wonder how many years or generations we will have to go through till everyone realizes unlike a few years back rookie caps and limits mean you can simply earmark a few million for the draft have at it in free agency. not only are rookie deals low dollar but extend generally four years, while vets generally go 2-3 years. They do this so no matter what you pick up in free agency it will never clash with your draft class (unless you simply go over the cap from the start). These "new" rookie rules where designed to achieve exactly what it should be achieving in Miami, being giving vets that deserve to be on the final 53 a job and weeding out those entering the NFL before they sign big contracts.

I say all that but bet we will see multiple "building through the draft" references still within this thread.

Patriots make a play for DeSean Jackson, meanwhile, Miami is full of fans talking about how great Hartline is, lol (etc.).

And people wonder why we're forever mired in mediocrity...

SMH.

Yep, same thing we heard with guys like Ginn and Booker. DeSean Jackson is a gamer.

Ginn actually changed defenses and won some games almost single-handedly. His problem was that he was overdrafted and overpaid for his production. Booker, lol.

We mostly hear this over and over with guys like Hartline and Bess. When Philbin and Ireland inked Hartline to that contract last year, I almost blew a gasket. The handwriting of mediocrity was on the wall, imo. Got crucified in VIP for my stance, too, btw. I tried to give Ireland the benefit of the doubt -- but it was so hard. With all the money spent last offseason and all those draft picks, Miami could have easily gone into the season with a decent OL, great 1-2 punch at RB (with Bush and Miller), and new WRs 1-4 (better ceiling, etc.). When you are mired in mediocrity and the best thing you can say about a WR is "consistency," that's all you'll have, if you keep relying on such players: Consistent mediocrity.

Team easily could have had 2-3 more playmakers, with all the money and draft picks Ireland blew.

Colossal fail. Not just meh. Colossal fail.
