The Question of Ryan Tannehill - Bill Barnwell

Tannehill was absolute garbage against the Jets in week 17. At home. How is this even a debate? Yes, phin fans, we missed the postseason in the last week of the season mainly because our second-year QB sucked with the playoffs on the line. This is not complicated.

Counterpoint:

» despite the statistically 29th ranked OL,
» a bunch of dysfunctional distractions,
» no blocking or redzone TE to replace Fasano after Keller went down,
» loss of our most reliable 3rd down and TD completion percentage receiver in game 6,
» loss of our safety blanket in the first quarter of the jets game,
» a bi-polar running game that couldn't block for **** and
» an anachronistic OC as predictable as Henning,

while Tannehill picked a bad game to have his worst showing (whether 7 sacks the previous week had a bearing or not), the fact remains that he beat 4 out of 7 winning teams faced last season including the 4 going on to postseason, and despite the record setting sacks the OL, blocking RBs and TEs allowed, it's a wonder he kept us in the running as long as he did. With just a few of the above-mentioned missing elements, we should have been locked in before, and confirmed with the scary impressive NE victory in week 14. So there's that too.

That hurts, hoops. But I'll still save you a seat on the Ryan Shazier bandwagon.
Sorry J but I had to thumbs up Hoops for thumbs downing you. I don't like the thumbs options, especially the thumbs down and very rarely use it. Your post is certainly worthy of one but your not.

I think it should be open season on berating junk, or any other Jets fan that wanders on this board.

I think we need one of the following to happen this season:

1. Tannehill has an impressive season and leaves no doubt that he's our future QB

2. Tannehill plays poorly and it's obvious we need to move on

I really hope it's #1, and I still think he has the ability to be our future. But he needs to make that clear this year. If he plays about the same as he has his first two seasons, I would venture to say it will be highly unlikely that he suddenly becomes a star down the road. I really don't want to waste 3-4 more years with a QB that won't get us anywhere. We need to at least FEEL like we have a shot to go deep in the playoffs, otherwise why even follow?

Another off season of debating whether Tannehill will pan out, whether the problems were his fault or not, whether he's progressing 'enough', etc, would be torture. We need it to be crystal clear, for better or worse.

The article called the OL the worst in the league. Any other opinions you get from the article are your own and yours alone.

BTW, here are two threads after the NE and before the Buf game explicitly questioning the OL:

proving once again, you just make **** up......

You would figure that Tannehill would have gotten worse as the season went along because Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito were both gone during the second half, but in watching the Dolphins offense, the line was far more at fault for sacks during the first half of the campaign than during the second half

Tannehill seems to get stuck at times on his reads and holds on to the ball longer than he should in the hopes of making plays. That became more and more obvious as the season went along, although it’s clearly an issue for Tannehill on a regular basis.

you see what you want to see.

It's so obvious, our line was good and Ryan lost single handily the game (something not so easy in a total team sports like footbal, right? l )
it's a shame, because the rest of the team played lights out, especially the last 2 games... It's just RyanS fault, accept it... No gray shades, never! And he was responsible only for the loss, not for putting us even in the position to be a play off team... That was likely thanks to our good offensive line and our Seattle_like running game

It was Ryan''s fault... Just like Wilson won the super bowl on his own and like Mark buttfumble took the jets to the conference final, alone...or like Brady won his Superbowl alone and so on..

one has to wonder why there are other positions, when it's all on the qb... O lin, running game, wife receivers , injuries , the defense of both teams, the coaching, are there just for show... And they even get paid, the scoundrels! When the did not matter AT ALL

And if you think that is more complex than that, then you are an apologist, someone who can't see the simple truth... Ryan lost the playoffs 2 year in a row, even having a good line last year and a very good receiving corps the year before (yeah, I know nobody said the last phrase, but it was for dramatic effect :chuckle:)

This way of over emphasize the qb role like is the only real factor is annoying (and I think wrong, because not all the best teams or the super bowl winners in the last years have an elite qb... Or like the 49ers went to 3 straight conference with 2 different qb, )

A qb doesn't win or lose alone... And an elite qb is not the only way to win, even in today NFL

He could be considered 27th ranked but top 10 best.:lol2:

IMO he was worse the week before in Buffalo....was hoping he would bounce back at home against the Jets but that didn't happen....RT lost confidence in his OC and I lost confidence in RT....hope I see a better QB this yr than the one that I saw at the end of last yr....

Great article (something you don't really see from Grantland these days)

Plenty of hard truths and tough love for Ryan. I personally have faith in him, pretty much because he's all we got.

you see what you want to see.

Nobody more than you. I extracted a direct quote. You interpreted (by your own admission) the article.

No response to the proof that you made up the BS claim about NOBODY talking about the OL after the NE game?

where have you showed proof of it? and every word isn't meant to be taken literally, when I say "nobody" it doesn't mean literally not a person b/c excuse makers like yourself always like to have an excuse in their back pocket but the talk on the board was about the impending playoff clincher, Philbin COY, Ryan has arrived, etc... The facts are your Ol played much better the 2nd half but you need excuses for Ryan's play b/c of how you overrate his play from last year.

Mods, Really? For 10 years we have put up with a Jets fan who brings nothing but trolling to the table.

I think it's time for the perma ban. Send him back to Gang Green.
