How is it reasonable for a candidate that has no HC experience to be so arrogant as to say to the owner and GM I want to name my own HC? I mean really. We're not talking about someone that has an establishes track record building a quality staff. The honest truth is, all of these guys are a gamble and I fully support Ross/Ireland for applying some sort of control, until the HC proves they are capable. Before then, with all the stuff that has happened with this franchise and their choices for HC's, I would think Ross is either stupid or totally dettached from his teams realities if he didn't do so.
It's NOT your money or mine, I think it's weak and childish to imply the things some of you are implying. Shoot man, if you don't like it stop keeping up with the team. It ain't that complicated. There are 31 other teams you can follow and ***** about.
You know this FO is not respected around the league, right? Come on...Ross has a long way to go before he learns the ropes of being an owner.
I think this is a non-issue. The Dolphins don't even know if Todd Bowles is interested in staying in Miami, and in fact the article admits that Bowles was never told anything other than that Philbin got the job.
Mike McCoy has to be embarrassed about this whole thing. He went around telling everyone that he was getting the job. He even told the Raiders they can take their interview and shove it because he's pretty sure he's getting the Miami gig. Now he doesn't get it, and he has to come up with some reason why he didn't get it that makes Miami look bad and him look like the victim. It's only NATURAL to do that. So he cycles through in his mind trying to figure out where it all went wrong and he remembers the conversation about Bowles where they made it clear that they'd like him to consider Todd for the defensive coordinator position, they think highly of him, etc. THAT becomes the excuse. THAT becomes where it all went wrong.
But let's be honest. Jeff Ireland is the same guy that asked a prospect if his mom was a prostitute to see how he'd react. He's the guy that had Brian Daboll come barreling into the interview room playing Theatre of Life pretending to be a diva receiver pestering the quarterback to see how he'd handle it. It could very well be that conversation about Bowles was nothing more than push back to see how strong Mike McCoy's convictions are. If you tell them you're pretty sure you want a defensive coordinator with experience and then they make it clear they want Bowles, and you cave in easily, then obviously you're not very strong on your convictions of vision for what you want with the team.
I'm telling you, this was a NON-ISSUE in my opinion, because Bowles seems likely to leave anyway and has indeed told the Dolphins he'd like to explore his other options.
I think a bigger issue is how McCoy handled himself during the process. He interviews with the Dolphins and the interviews went well. So what does he do? He goes around telling everyone he's getting the job and even cancels the Oakland interview.
Think about it. You're an owner. You kind of want Joe Philbin. Your GM wants Mike McCoy. There's still active debate about this. You get wind that Mike McCoy is out there telling media people that he's the favorite for the job, a virtual lock for it as a matter of fact, to the point he actually cancels his Oakland interview and tells them it's because he's pretty sure he's getting the Miami job.
Doesn't that turn you off? It would turn me off. That's a level of ****iness and poor planning, poor professionalism, that doesn't bode well for you as an NFL head coach. Joe Philbin made it clear that he's ready to go for the Miami job if he's called for it, but he did go ahead and schedule that Tampa interview anyway. He went on business as usual while Jo-Jo the Circus Idiot is out doing cartwheels, selling his house and buying boat shoes. Considering how the Dolphins went immediately on to business as usual after finishing their Jeff Fisher interview, commencing with all their planned interviews while the Fisher saga stretched on...which approach do you think resonated with them more?
I'd bet on that being a bigger factor than the Todd Bowles thing.

I was thinking though...you know what I love according to Mando's article? That McCoy KNEW he had a weakness that he was a 1st timer as a HC. He wanted to give the keys to a veteran DC so he could focus on the QB and offensive side of the ball. Tremendous introspective situation.
Also, where is McCoy so unreasonable? In the end, he said, he would interview Todd Bowles. If he does not know who the heck Todd Bowles is, why should be saddled with him as a coach?
Perhaps McCoy did make a good career move in the long run.
I don't think McCoy was unreasonable, but I do think he was unprofessional. You don't run around canceling interviews because you think you have a job that, well, you don't have. Furthermore, after you get "snubbed", you don't run around and leak out business discussions as to why you think you didn't get hired. That's just sour grapes and shows a lack of maturity on his part. Be thankful for the chance and move on. If you want to have a chip on your shoulder, fine. But prove why you were snubbed, don't assume.
I think he cancelled interviews with other teams because he wanted to focus on our job. I think he thought it would make him look better to our front office. I think the whole Mccoy thinking he was the frontrunner was a non-issue.
I also don't believe this story. Sorry Armando, you blew too many reports on our head coaching search before this to be trusted IMO. The media doesn't have a clue of what is going on. I suggest we don't put too much stock into what they are saying.
Nobody is talking about how it is apparent that the team was not straightforward with Todd Bowles.
As many have stated prior, I think Bowles will not be back, so perhaps it is a nonissue.
