Because he learned from his "mistakes" and is a better and more complete person because of it. Took some thing negative and made a positive out of it.Im not against Ricky Williams. But it states that he is the model for this scholarship. My question is how is a guy who has publicly failed drug tests for marijuana and up and quits on his football team out of no where a role model for a scholarship.

How do you know he learned from his mistakes? All he did was come back to play football because there's no money in basketweaveing and touring with Lenny Kravitz.
There's a great many more people that would be better models for a scholorship (scholarship?)

if he were underserving of the honor, he wouldn't have received it. apparently, there aren't a great many more people who met their criterion for the scholarship. or they wouldn't have named it after him.
