The Ricky Williams Scholarship

Im not against Ricky Williams. But it states that he is the model for this scholarship. My question is how is a guy who has publicly failed drug tests for marijuana and up and quits on his football team out of no where a role model for a scholarship.

Because he learned from his "mistakes" and is a better and more complete person because of it. Took some thing negative and made a positive out of it.

How do you know he learned from his mistakes? All he did was come back to play football because there's no money in basketweaveing and touring with Lenny Kravitz.

There's a great many more people that would be better models for a scholorship

schol⋅ar⋅ship   [skol-er-ship]
–noun
1. learning; knowledge acquired by study; the academic attainments of a scholar.

schol⋅ar   [skol-er]
–noun
1. a learned or erudite person, esp. one who has profound knowledge of a particular subject.

I don't see what failing a drug test has to do with being scholarly.

Ricky is the RealDeal.
if he were underserving of the honor, he wouldn't have received it. apparently, there aren't a great many more people who met their criterion for the scholarship. or they wouldn't have named it after him.
think about it:crazy:

let's not go south with this thread
the end.:thanks:
can't wait to see the Tandem run behind the Orca-5

People get honors all the time that they aren't deserving of. Just because he got the honor, doesn't mean he deserved it. He's a quitter and a druggie. Hey, if they think that is a good representation for a scholorship, that's their business. Not in a million years would I name a scholorship after him.

I still think it was just a perception thing for the NFL in the start. Pot obviously is not enhancing physical ability. A very large percentage of our population smokes pot. Budwieser spends more money than anyone in the world to stop the legalization of pot. Why? Because they would buy less beer.
At worst, it is a small fine here for holding less than a quarter ounce as long as it is in only one container.

goonboss:rimshot:

people who live in glass houses...
do we really need this trash & bash?
who amongst us hath not ...
are you going to throw the first stone?
the guy has done a good thing, not a bad thing.
think about it :D

this is a good thing, not a bad thing

What good thing did he do?

I'm not throwing stones at anyone. I'm simply stating facts. It's thier scholorship and they can name it after whomever they choose. I just find it hilarious that they'd name it after a guy that has proven multiple times that pot means more to him than his teammates, and, can't follow the rules of his workplace.

He has not caused harm to anyone or cheated to become a better athlete.

Do you have a drink from time to time?
Every bit as much of a drug....actually more.
The poor guy gets raked over the coals in interviews about pot time after time.

This is a game of football and we are not talking about roids here.

I will say this much when I think about Schools and Scholarships Ricky Williams is furthest from my mind. And the fact that they name a scholarship after him is very funny. Ricky is not a guy I would want as a role model for kids.

yeah ok you can say all he did was smoke pot. But as of now pot is illegal. And then as a role model I do not want any of my kids idolizing a guy who is a quitter. What kind of message does that send to kids? That it is alright to quit things and do illegal substances?
