The Trenches win games.

Yes but our OL is legitimately not good. Did you not watch how an offense that was scoring around 40 early in the season be reduced to primarily bubble screens by the end of the season? Do you really think its because McD wants to?
This thread was created during the last pre-season game... That game has no influence on what think about this team whatsoever. All I saw of the starting offense in pre-season was perfectly acceptable... tua 5-5, 10+YPA, converted 3rd/4th and shorts a couple of times, beautiful TD throw and catch.... without either Waddle or Hill... I mean... The 3rd pre-season game tells you absolutely nothing about a team...

I didn't watch any preseason games at all. Just such a disorganized mess that its not worth doing any eval on, especially since teams have leaned so heavily into joint practices.

But I know our OL sucks. It will probably open the year barely floating by, and then when a few injuries pop up, including the usual Terron Armstead, we'll be a training wheels offense again, even with Ferraris in the garage.

Your complaint isnt rooted in reality... just sayin'

This team has had offensive line problems since 2003. They were rated 23rd in the league last year WITH the quickest release QB in the league, and a running scheme that asked as little of linemen as possible, and they lost 2 starters.

I would think there's no rational basis whatsoever to suggest that the offensive line isn't a concern.

That's the thing you need to realize... Tua's super power is speed and accuracy of operations, and they just paid for it. In order for it to work, you gotta save somewhere else, ideally where your QB can make up for it.

You can't just always scream that Tua is good for X, Y, Z reason and then go beserk when the whole ****ing unit looks like **** when he isn't playing. Neither are Hill or Waddle btw...

I just wish we would fortify the trenches on both sides of the damn ball once and for all. Yes, strong trench play can win games. I always said if you're starting a team, you build the trenches first then find a QB.
Sometimes that’s hard do because it could take 4-5 years to find a QB and then all the good lineman you find have to get paid or leave in FA by the time you find that QB.

OL depth is atrocious across the league... "Huh!! Our backups are baaaaaad!"

Half the damn starters in the NFL aren't even good.

This is not aimed directly at you... It seems like the whole damn forum thinks Fins management should poop good Olinemen.

That is because this forum is rife with realists, otherwise known as "Lemmings". - LOL

Well ,you can’t tell Mike McDummy you need good line play when he needs or wants another RB or wr with 4.3 speed.

Yes, yes you can.

Be sure to get his name right on the envelope, or the Post Office will need to return it.
At least they will be returning it to the "right" person, based on the mis-spelled name. - LOL

Grier flat out can't find the right players for the offensive line. Ever. Our o-line looks pretty weak. Driscoll and Eichenberg are all finesse and Liam is on the damn ground way too much. Austin Jackson isn't a physical powerhouse either and Wynn is always injured. Then we have Brewer who is small and currently injured. Robert Jones is mediocre and hasn't looked good the past couple of weeks.
Wah, Wah, Wah; all the way to the season opener. - LOL

We spend less than average on the OL. We spend more than average on WR and DB. I haven't looked at the distribution of draft picks but probably we draft less in the trenches. I am inclined to trust the process because the team feels better now than it did a decade ago.
You nailed it!

And undersized guys at that. We have the smallest WR group in the NFL and our RBs have to be one of the smallest groups also.

The "midget minded" posters here are "coagulating" at the surface right now.

Chemically speaking, we could use a few "flocculants" to "clear things up", like I'm doing now! - LOL

Poster, you may now consider yourself "Flocc-ed". - LOL

Wilkin might have been your most physical player but I believe the key to the defense was Seiler, he was just as good as Wilkins, the dolphins need to get players with a nasty disposition on game day, I do believe Wilkins was there in KC last year and he didn't show up. Miami need road graders up front to move people so the Lbers can make tackles and that wasn't the case except for Long.

Where is the the objective evidence that games are won in the trenches? That may be the conventional wisdom, but conventional wisdom is often wrong. It's entirely possible that the most common outcome in the trenches is more or less a stalemate, where both lines simply neutralize each other, and the other players on the field make the difference.
