The Trenches win games.

Have no idea why Grier and McDaniel are content with backup level players starting at the guard position. Not being able to block the a and b gaps is how you get whooped on by the good teams. We’ll have to see how the interior looks a with a healthy Aaron Brewer at center, but I’m not optimistic.

Sometimes that’s hard do because it could take 4-5 years to find a QB and then all the good lineman you find have to get paid or leave in FA by the time you find that QB.
It is possible to re-sign linemen you know. But if you do what we did in 2019 and 2020, go scorched Earth and try to build a line without any veteran building blocks, you are gonna have too many guys hitting FA at the same time.

Trying to build your future OL and Qb in the same draft was just dumb, dumb, dumb.

Right? I also don't understand why Grier and McDonald are content with just one first round pick each draft, or not being able to spend over the salary cap. They're such Fin hating dolts.

They can always resign players early, or to contract terms of varying lengths. Would you have had them trade out if the Tua pick to grad linemen? I was in favor of taking Sewell over Waddle but who's to say that would have worked out better. If it wasn't the OL we could very easily be complaining about our QB or WR positions and those are even harder and/or more expensive than OL to fill via free agency.

You can be a smart ass all you want buddy, but the film doesn’t lie. Liam Eichenberg has 3 years of bad film. And Robert Jones is not particularly adept at pass blocking either.

We better hope Tua can continue to get rid of the ball in 2.5 seconds all year again.

All I am saying is that we can want a better OL but those players and the resources to get them are finite and it is a zero sum game. I don't know what I would give up elsewhere to acquire someone new that may or may not be an upgrade over what we already have.

But there are people employed by the team who do this for a living and know a hell of a lot more about the subject than I do.

The trenches do win games but the coach and front office's philosophy is that you pay the premium skill positions on both sides of the ball...

Then you develop, under minimal investment, the interior trenches...

Let's see how it plays out...

I'm saying the idea of having an expansion-team caliber offensive line and then expecting to staff the line almost entirely with rookies or backup caliber guys is a stupid way to bring up a franchise QB. It sure helped Tua a lot that we had Brandon Jones and Kyle Van Noy on defense.

“The trenches wins games” thing is such a silly statement and title to make.

A team can have the best “trenches” in the game but without a QB and the right play makers it won’t matter.

What truly wins is the right combination of everything. Sometimes it can lean offense or defense, or it can lean toward the lines or the skill talent. But make no mistake — no one position or group wins anything.

Pretty much every playoffs game I've ever seen is dependent on teams dominating the trenches. Be it the O-Line holding more stout than the other side or the D-line imposing its will. That will be the main factor for an Elite QB on which ever team being able to do what they do best. The difference between us and Baltimore/Chiefs isn't just Lamar/Mahomes but if we ever want to have a chance you better bet we gotta have one hitting on all cylinders to be able to keep up with them. We aren't gonna have that explosive offense that died down towards the end of last season if Tua can scan the field comfortably or give our speedy wide receiver time to go up field. And we can have the GOAT RB off all time and it won't mean much if his line is getting bullied. If we have an average O-Line then we can't have a mediocre D-Line as well and expect to keep KC or any other elite offensive team limited so we can keep up with them offensively. Any shut down corners which is something I'm putting the stretch on to label our own aren't going to do much in todays NFL. The rules favour the offense and they can spam short passes/slants to us to death. So I'll stick to what the title perhaps vaguely represents that if our trenches our mediocre, we are highly overrating Tua and his ability to carry us consistently against good teams through. We went to the playoffs with a good QB and elite receivers. It obviously isn't enough to take us the superbowl, we need more. If our O-Line and D-Line are in the "good" but not elite category then I feel confident in our chances.
