The Value of Big, Physical Receivers

A big, physical receiver would be nice but I also think a pass-catching back would be far more useful to this team right now. For the life of me I do not understand why this offense refused to use Reggie Bush and then let him walk.

Sounds good BUT we haven't run a screen in 10 years

Lol dude the Bears have a great running game, a QB that has a cannon arm with the experience to be accurate. Wait til Tannehill develops that experience. We have 2 receiver on pace for 1,000 yrds each witout a runnin game and protection.

I would love to Draft Brandon Coleman out of Rutgers.
He has been hurt most of the year, but he was a preseason top WR draft prospect.
Obviously his stock has dropped a bit. But he will not past the 2nd round.

You do know that guy is going to the Pats, right?

Keller was the perfect fit. I really got pissed when he got hurt. Keller needs to be resigned or get someone like him.

I think you're on to something here. Let's just pull someone out of the TE tree, but he has to be as good as Keller....nothing less will do

A big, physical receiver catches more than half of those deep passes to Wallace this year.

It's real nice when you have a big receiver with the type of catch radius and body control a Brandon Marshall, Calvin Johnson, Josh Gordon, Alshon Jeffery or Andre Johnson have...not to mention the speed to get downfield.
.

A big physical WR likely dosent get open deep down the field half of the time that Wallace does. So Tannehill wouldnt have had nearly as many chances to under throw it to a different player.

Youre talking about a RARE breed of player who has anything close to the deep speed of Wallace and still has great size. Basically youre talking about Megatron, Julio Jones, and AJ Green. Yea, Id love to have one of those 3 guys too.

Wallace is a great WR and I dont get why people complain so much about him. Its like "OH that guy gets open deep way too many times. I wish he were good so Tannehill could misfire and still complete passes". Do you folks realize how ridiculous that sounds?

Agreed. Although the hallmark of a WCO WR is the ability to get YAC yards, that ain't happening right now.

They are when Tannehill actually throws a ****ing strike.

Just look at the Wallace catch before the half against the Patriots. Lets see Tannehill do that more. The opportunities have been there. The QB has to ****ing connect.

Opportunities have been there, and Tannehill did fail on some occasions. But there are also a lot of opportunities missing owing to the offensive line. We run an offense that is dictated on getting the ball out in two seconds on a vast majority of our pass plays. These receivers don't get a chance to run a full route tree and the QB doesn't get appropriate time to let them get downfield.

We had a big receiver in Brandon Marshall, but Ireland hates good players,,,,that's why he also dumped Reggie Bush when he still had a lot in the tank.

Totally agree a big target is needed for not only red zone, but for 3rd downs where blitzing creates a need for a win receiver. Our guys are solid with Wallace having a special skill with blazing speed. But all if them need time which our line rarely provided. Yes, OL is top priority, but having a big WR or TE to lob up a ball with confidence can make a huge difference. Just look at the difference with the Pat's. They still win with a HOF QB, but they are a light years better team with Gronk in the line up.

A lot of us have talked about TE for 10-15 years because we've never had a good one and we can never seem to cover one. A big WR could create similar advantages. It sure would be nice to give other teams this problem with our offense. Clay is a very is very versatile, but he's not that type of player. Keller is nice but clearly can not be counted on to last a season.

If we get some FA help at OL I would not be at all upset to take Ebron or Evans if we have a shot at them in the draft.

We have a lot of finesse. We could use some bigger bodies, it's not about choosing one or the other. It's no surprise that one of our best games was when Clay broke out, and ran over some people after catch, and held onto the ball securely. Then there was Sims making that TD catch. There are some plays like that which stick out to me, as a counterbalance to the finesse plays from Wallace and toe taps from Hartline, and speedy runs from Miller earlier in the year. We could use a red zone threat, whether that's a big receiver, or TE. We could use a bigger RB. Replace Thomas and keep Miller as a speedy secondary back. Gibson will be back next year.

We do run the occasional RB or bubble screen. The problem is that they are almost never executed well. This is mostly because our offensive line blows, but guys like Clay and Hartline aren't particularly good blockers in space.

See last week when we ran a bubble screen to Mike Wallace and it lost yards like it almost always does.
