The View From the Other Side (Houston)

the score was 38-17 with "under" 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

211 of miami's yards came in garbage time when the pats didn't really care as they knew they had won by that point. The Dolphins got 80 yards on the "scripted" opening drive and didn't score in the first half again as the Pats adjusted after that drive. That = about 300 yards for the first drive and in garbage time when the game was essentially over. In between those points, for the big bulk of the game, Miami was almost non existent with under 200 total yards for the real meat of the game, when the game was really decided - as it was most of the game (about 45 minutes of the 60 minutes when you deduct miami's opening drive Time of Poss and the garbage time).

The Pats had "over" 500 total yards for the "meat" of the game in those 45 minutes. The Dolphins ? again, "under" 200 for the meat of the game. It's 500++ >>>> under 200.

With just over 3 minutes left in the game - score 38 >>>> 17 in a half empty stadium as half the fans were already driving home from the game = blowout

It was a blowout. Whenever you're leading 38-17 with under 4 minutes left in a football game, it's a blowout amigo.

Too many people try to over analyze things to sound profound. Our defense was blown out.....not our offense. And the defense was blown out due to very poor conditioning and adjustments, not bc they suck. They just sucked in this game.

From T Eric Winston:

There were two plays there that were defining. They didn’t get in on the fourth-and-goal and the next play, the Patriots hit a 99-yard pass that blew the game open. That was the game right there, so to act like the game was never in reach is not really true. It’s not indicative of what happened. We got to go out there and we got to play well. I think Miami’s a good team. I think they’re going to be in it at the end to go into the playoffs.”

An offensive lineman that gets it. Even though I believe that our D played on their heels the whole game, he hit the nail right on the head. The game ultimately came down to those 2 situations.

The Texans have never made the playoffs..Miami was an expanison team too and we went to the superbowl in what our 4th year?

Went to 3 straight super bowls..Perfect season...

The Colts signed Kerry Collins out of retirment 2 weeks before opening day and now all of a sudden the Texans are much improved?

Laughable..I bet the Jags some how win that divison.

Texans' fans are awfully ****y for a team who is known to be one of the most inconsistent and unpredictable teams in the league.

Seriously, what a **** football organization. They'll always be the red-headed step child in Texas. Who the **** cares about a Houston Texan football team? My goodness, these bums have never even made the playoffs. Totally irrelevant franchise with no history, no success, and no rings. As far as I'm concerned, they're just filler in a league dominated by historic franchises.

I think a blowout in football is 17 pts or more since it's a 3 possession game 10-14 pts is winning comfortably imo. But this MNF game was a blowout imo considering NE had over 600 yards and were never really threatened after going up 31-17.

A blowout is not 31-17. A blowout is a large differential in the beginning of the game that is maintained. The game was in the balance until midway into the fourth quarter.

No, our defense blowout because of an incredible amount of mental and technical errors. Also, the play calls took to long from Nolan, and that really hurt the defenses ability to be ready for the snap.

These are quotes from Texans players and coaches. What did you expect them to say, "The Phins suck, we're going to smoke them" ? Most teams other than perhaps the Jets are going to say exactly what those guys said.

People complain that Sparano praises his players in his press conferences even when they had bad games. This is what happens. Press conferences, interviews, quotes, they're all kiss-*** bull****. You're hardly ever going to get the truth.

Yeah and it was 31-17 with 5 mins left and the Dolphins at the 1. That isn't a blowout. Answering Welker's TD with Bush's TD cancels each other out. Your mind is already made up though and your perception has been noted for a long time now.

You hate the team. Awesome.

It's easy to be ****y when you're on the internet. Add to the mix that they beat the Colts w/o Manning and it's like the Redskins fans around here who think the team is bound for greatness (nevermind the Giants defense had 81 guys missing).

Look at all of the quotes from the Texans fans there. They reek of 18 year old teenagers who work at Blockbuster Video. Seeing as how no one's opinions really actually matter, their opinions deserve to be shunned ten times as much.

Houston fans comments from various sites:

Houston fans starting to sound like Jets fans lol

I'll bet the die hard Texan fans have been around a very long time. Probably lots of life long fans in HS or maybe even a few in college.

get a clue goob, the 99 yard Welker play is the diff in yardage and it came after no pts on fourth and 1 which was the DIFFERENCE IN THE SCORE!!!! Come down off the ledge or come back next year.

Yes because Houston has never had an NFL team before the Texans.

Check out the rule changes regarding expansion teams when the Texans started vs when the Dolphins started.Same thing with the Jags. It was much easier to build a decent team right out of the box then it is now.

We did the same thing to the Colts opening day last year....with PM playing.

Anybody who says the Dolphins were blown out are obviously just doom and gloom people who only look at the final score.

It was a 2 posession game when Miami was goal and go. I highly doubt the Patriots were confident that this game was over.
