The Wallace Effect on Others?

No reason to beat yourself over the head. It's a common misconception for many.

Yeah I was really struggling for something to say... Our offense indeed would be better (and the wallace effect would follow) if they could connect but I still find it hard to believe our offense would be as good without him. Impossible to TRULY say

Did Fasano's blocking help? Was Reggie dynamic enough to help? Who knows

How could the stats be the same when Tannehill doubles his TD passes. The year before Hartline had one TD and our leader was Fasano with 5 I believe.

Clay , Wallace and Harline all had 4 plus and Mathews and Gibson pitched in another 5 as well.

Our running game sucked but our passing was much better than the year before at least scoring wise.

Any running game at all and we would have had a few more wins.

Agree on TD's but, did not include as most were in the red zone where Wallace's speed effect diminishes greatly. This was to measure Wallace's effect on others, and I did not see it.

Not saying we were as good without Wallace, just that he did not have the effect on others he should have.

In theory, a WR with the speed of a Wallace opens up the O for everyone else, and that should happen. However, I did not see it last year for our team.

Hartline went from #1 coverage to #2 but, had the same year. In 2012, 74 catches for a 14.6 avg, and 2013 76 catches for a 13.4 average. In 21012, Bess caught 61 for a 12.8 average. In 2013, Gibson (before injury) caught 30 for a 10.9 average.

Clay, in 2012, caught 18 for a 11.8 average, and Fasano was 41 for a 8.1 average. In 2013, Clay caught 69 for a 11 average. I think the difference in Clay was getting more playing time and improving.

Wallace was to open up the run game, and get the 8 out of the box. We had the same 4.1 average as 2012 with Bush, and Hartline as #1.

I know Wallace "should" have made a difference with others but, did not see it. Why?

You seem to choose your stats carefully... how about how Brian Hartline had 5 touchdowns in 2013 compared to 1 in 2012? Or how about how Brandon Gibson had 3 touchdowns in 7 games, compared to one touchdown in 13 games for Bess in 2012?

Yes, Bush had the same 4.1 average ypc, but since we signed Wallace we sacrificed Jake Long essentially, Miller was running behind a significantly worse line. I'd like to imagine Miller would average more than 4.1 ypc with Jake Long at LT rather than that horrid combination of Martin and McKinnie..

I think what you're trying to ask is if Wallace was worth the money, and the answer is "no". Could he be better, YES. Assuming Tannehill is able to learn how to throw the deep ball and hit Wallace in stride, and Lazor chooses to involve Wallace more in the short/medium passing game than Sherman did, Tannehill gets adequate protection and a running game established, then Wallace might have a chance to shine.

I'd still take Marshall over Wallace every day of the week and twice on Sunday, I wish we could've seen what he could do with Tannehill instead of Henne

Prove me wrong on the Wallace Effect having anything to do with TD's? Look forward to it but, will not happen.

Won't know if he was worth it until this year. Last year-NO.

My thing is very rarely is the top FA EVER worth the money they get. That doesn't mean they can't be a stellar player, it just means that the FA market is typically overinflated to the point of being utterly ridiculous in many cases, this is why being able to identify elite talent in the draft and acquire that elite talent is so crucial.

In Ireland's six years we've had two elite talents at WR, both were FA's and both were overpaid. Of the two I prefer Marshall, but neither were "worth the money".

Hopefully we can start finding the Keenan Allen's in the draft, to add to the solid WRs we do sometimes find (Hartline for example).

We actually threw the ball 90 more times in 2013 vs. 2012 and ran the ball 91 times less.

In 2013 we had 47 pass plays of 20 yards or longer and 11 pass plays of 40 yards or longer
In 2012 we had 42 pass plays of 20 yards or longer and 3 pass plays of 40 yards or longer

I think Wallace did open things up. However, the average yards per play didn't change much YOY. So, I would think that play calling was a factor (how many of those quick slants did we see or pass patterns run just short of the sticks) as well as the need to call those short passes due to Tannehill not having the time to throw due to the O-line.

All roads we look at keep coming back to the O-line......don't they....

There was no difference with Hartline because your premise that he was getting #1 coverage last year is wrong. They weren't worried about Hartline last year, they were more worried about Bush than Hartline. Hartline warrants nothing more than single CB coverage...

Marshall was not a Free Agent. He was traded for with 2 2nd round picks I'm consecutive drafts then we discarded him because he's vocal and does dumb things for 2 3rd rounders in consecutive drafts. The value we lost on the trade and with the drafted players really sux.

Good point, I forgot about the extra value in addition to the money spent that was thrown away.
