Spikedex - I'm just saying next year Cone will be 27 and that's typically too old to start an NFL career. Yes at 39 Manning would be too old to START a career. In Cone's case I'm just saying if you didn't make the cut at 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26 what would make you think things will be different at 27.

Look at Wake and YB. Wake was out of the NFL and came back at a much later time than most. Yeremiah Bell was a low pick and didn't show much until he started against the Bears quite a few years ago. Some guys get it early and some get it later. If they believe he's one of the 5 or 6 that can be most productive, they're not going to turn him away because he's turning 27.

Matthews is not only young, but as a former 7th round pick hes extremely affordable. You dont trade that away when hes finally starting to show he can play up to his potential. Not unless you get an absurd, Madden-ish trade offer. Im still not quite ready to rely on him, but im more than willing to give him a chance to show me he can be in our long term plans.

If one of them has to go, its got to be Hartline. That contract starts getting stupid next season. This has come up often on here, but we need to be proactive now instead of being reactive later. Its possible to get a 4th or even a 3rd for Hartline while his contract isnt that bad and hes coming off a good year. Best case scenario: Matthews is the real deal and can immediately fill Hartline's void. Worst case scenario: Landry, after having a season of experience, steps into Hartline's role for the 2015 season. Either way, by next offseason we will have an extra pick and his production should be replaced.

This roster still needs rebuilding. We need all the draft picks and cap room we can manage. Its of the utmost importance that we use our limited resources in the best ways possible. Not only can Hartline be replaced, its damned plausible that we already have that replacement on the roster. Its time to sell high.

We finally have a very talented receiving core and excellent depth (remember the injuries to Gibson and Hartline?) and you want to trade away our most productive WR over the past two years whom has the best camaraderie with Tannehill. I think you're high.

Just on today's practice, Kevin Cone looked better than Armon Binns and Damian Williams. I was very, very surprised. He's a lot better than I expected.

That's because it is crazy.

Depth is not a luxury. It is a necessity in the NFL. Mathews has seen very limited action on an NFL field and Gibson and Binns are both coming of injuries.

I do not disagree with our LB issues but you don't swap out one of our strengths (WR) for a possible mend to another position.

How many wins has that fabulous production and sterling camaraderie translated to? 7 and 8. Not enough to have a winning record. Not nearly enough to get us into the playoffs. Being the best at a unit that hasnt performed well isnt saying much, as you suggested a few minutes ago when talking about the Jaguars. Hilarious how that works. :sidelol:

Keeping a receiver who's going to be hitting us with a $7 million cap hit in the near future for depth is ridiculous. We have players who could potentially fill Hartline's role who are younger, cheaper, and have a much higher ceiling. Perhaps they should be given a chance over the guy who's never helped us achieve a winning record. Despite any delusions you might harbor, this roster is not leading us to a Superbowl. We should make any moves that help us move towards that goal. Its been proven time and again that building a team via the draft is the most successful way to build a contender, we need every draft pick we can potentially get our hands on(and before you get cute: without gutting the team of course).
If we sustain injuries or suspensions(which has already happened ), then i guess our 8-8 season will be "derailed" into a 6-10. Oh no, how dreadful.

The Atlanta announcers said he was a hell of a special teams players so he may have an advantage over the guys you mentioned.

We should try to get a third or a future pick for Hartline. He is the best average receiver in the game. He could help a team out. It would shed some salary too. I think we have a very strong 4 with Wallace/Matthews/Gibson/Landry. Add Clay and Moreno and that gives us 6 strong receiving threats. (Hopefully Egnew shows something too) Then i think Binns makes the team as the fifth.

I like Hartline... But the drop off from Hartline to Gibson and Matthews is not big if any at all. I think Gibson or Matthews could fill in as the secondary reciever easily. Would give Landry more touches too.

Cone isn't new to the NFL. He was signed as an undrafted FA by the Falcons in 2011. In 2012 and 2013 he played full seasons on the 53...but strictly as a special teams guy.

Perhaps it's possible that if we keep only 2 qbs then we keep either Cone or Thigpen for special teams.

But your right, i do have an agenda: i want this team to win. Improving our roster is the best way to accomplish that. Granted, there are other schools of thought when it comes to winning.
