I haven't posted her in quite a while, but after watching the first preseason game and seeing the reaction here on the board I felt the need to make a point about this preseason and really the season in general. This year isn't like the last 12/13 years since Marino retired where we are forced to over-analyze details in the preseason and pretend that what we see give us insight into the upcoming season. I don't care that our team looked flat yesterday. I'm not worried that Philbin, though obviously a football-smart man, seems too similar to Cam Cameron for comfort. I'm not worried that our organization seems dysfunctional from top to bottom. I'm not worried about our owner, or our prick GM. I'm not worried that we are the laughingstock of the NFL. You get the point.

Disagree with any of those sentiments if you want, but in reality this really is the year of Tannehill. For the first time since Marino left, we have invested in the most important position in football. If the last decade has taught us anything, it should have taught us to never underestimate the importance of the quarterback position.

The truth is, if Tannehill pans out, Philbin becomes a success story, Ross gets credit for turning around the organization, the team Ireland has built starts to look like a team full of weapons and we finally become relevant again.

And after a couple of weeks, I couldn't be happier with Tannehill. His on the field performance has been great and he has everything you look for in a quarterback. This isn't John Beck, who was smart and we crossed our fingers regarding everything else. This isn't Pat White. This is a guy who by every measure has what it takes to be an NFL quarterback, and after two weeks he defintely looks the part.

So, this preseason, focus on Chad Johnson or Philbin or the our defense if you want, but I'll be focusing on number 17 because if he is what we hope he is, everything else will work out just fine.
 
Could not agree with you more. I sometimes catch myself getting delusional and actually thinking we have a shot to do something this year.. Still too many warts on our team to truly compete though. With that said, RT looked real good and if we finally found our franchise QB, I could care less about everything else cause I know it s only a matter of time before we compete and maintain that level for a long time. And the when the Sanchez and Tebow act is still S**ting the bed, Fitzpatrick is still just average with a few glimpses here and there and Brady is getting older..... We on the other hand will have a QB that will allow our team to rise to contention.. Sign me up for that all day long !!!
 
You couldn't have better expressed my feelings on this, I was pushing for Tannehill before it was popular on this board and the bandwagon grew so large.

I couldn't be happier and have not been this optimistic about the Miami Dolphins since the early 90's.
 
I agree with most things you said, except Philbin compared to Cam. Don't mistake humble and soft spoken for weak. And if you're using CJ as your reasoning, I agree with TedSlimm the Guy has to be a little more diplomatic with CJ, due mostly to the void of established wr talent on the roster. Make no mistake he'd cut CJ if he gets outta control. Or I believe he would.
 
Philbin is already looking to be far superior to Cam Cameron. I don't think Philbin is gonna borrow any pages from Cameron's playbook, especially the one where you turn over pre-season head coaching responsibilities to assistant coaches. Fail forward indeed.

And yeah, if Tannehill continues to impress like he did last night, he will have earned the right to start. A 66 percent (14/21) completion rate, 167 yards, with 1 touchdown is a pretty impressive debut no matter how you slice it...at least in my opinion.
 
Greyboy posted this and i have seen other very weird things along this line. But its the 13th year since Marino, RT's first drive started on the 13 yard line and he is the first QB we have taken in the first round SINCE Marino.........so coincidence?
