Theory on deep ball

Tanny needs to throw it sooner. Not a matter of arm strength..he will get there on those throws eventually I think.

His deep ball to everyone is absolute perfection. He has just not adjusted to Wallace's speed. It's very strange, he doesn't look like he's going any faster than the people around him..........but he's flying!

It doesn't matter what the excuse is. Bottom line as an NFL qb, you need to capitalize on some of those opportunities. He really hasn't all year. Stats are useless in this argument because they don't take ball placement into consideration and completion percentage is solely given to the qb as if nothing is involved from the wideout to make that completion happen. Sure Wallace may be catching an "acceptable" level of passes over say 30 yards compared to the rest of the league but no stat will tell you how many of those should have been break away touchdowns and that is where all this deep ball analysis falls flat on its face. paging statmongers

I think he's got to throw it a little earlier and let Wallace run under it more. Make Wallace chase it.

Either way. I'd love it if they connected on a perfect fly route in the post season to seal a victory.

I think more often than not Tannehill isn't in the best position to go deep, example he is under pressure or moving, etc. I'm pretty sure if he had more time, and in the coming years he will, things will be fine.

My buddy and I were watching the game, he is a Pats fan, so that was fun. Anyhow, he remarked on the deep pass to Wallace and had an interesting thought. Maybe Wallace has a bit more adrenaline going during the games than in practice, so he runs a but faster and that's why he always has to slow down? It seems like Tannehill has hit Hartline and Clay on deep balls right in stride. Maybe on gameday Wallace is too fast?

Maybe too fast for Ryan Tannehill.

For many years, Ben Roethlisberger had no problem with Mike Wallace being too fast, or hitting him on deep go routes, in stride.

Well I think that he consistently underthrows the deep ball and it diminishes Wallace's capacity to break away. Nearly every time Wallace seems to be waiting for the ball to come down and gives the defender a great chance to break it up. Ryan is making good improvement but if he can learn to get more power on the deep ball, this will be fun to watch.

People do realize that only a handful of quarterbacks have more plays for over forty yards than tannehill?

Tannehill needs to release it earlier and less arc. Put it there! Marino stylie!

Its the lowest percentage throw in football and people act like it should be completed every time you throw it.

Yes problem might be Wallace is too damn fast but the type of WR he is makes Tannehill look worse on his throws. Wallace has no physical game. He is the type of WR who will get by you and needs the ball on stride to make the catch. That's the only way he's making the catch. Some balls he slows down CB catches up and get in the way of a catch. On those ball he needs to be physical, slow down jump in the air and catch the ball at its highest points. Hartline, would come down with more of those balls than Wallace. Brandon Marshall/Ashlon Jeffery, balls aren't thrown always on stride for those guys to make the catch. They are physical, slow down when they see ball is slighty under thrown jump in the air and catch the ball at its highest point. Cause Wallace is not that kind of a WR, Tannehill's throws look even worse. Tannehill's only hope for success with Wallace is to try and hit him on stride. Wallace does nothing to help his QB look good on long balls, they need to be on stride for him.

I dont think theres any problem with tannehill's deep ball accuracy. I think its just a matter of adjusting to Wallace's speed. Hes just too fast (ie. almost outran his blocker on the reverse).. also if you look at tannehills deep throw to rishard mathews at the end of the game, that was as accurate as it can get.

We're talking about hitting the deep go route, in stride.

Tannehill has never hit Mike Wallace that way, while Ben Roethlisberger often did.

All the 40+ yd pass plays that Tannehill has hit involved crossing routes, short passes with YAC, or deep go routes that were underthrown, and required Mike Wallace to come back for the ball.

If you go back at look at Rbergers throws to Wallace...he underthrows him also. BTW with 1 game to go....Wallace has more receiving yards this year at Miami, than he did his last season in Pukesburg.
