There Is Only ONE Phin's Savior in 2014

I'm confident that with linebackers that could disrupt the running game, we could have at least made it to the divisional playoff round.

This and a better kicker. No doubt.

Forget the GM, OC, HC and owner. We are gonna live or die based on Tannehill becoming very good this year. Nothing else matters much.

Overall, he did improve last year BUT, when it mattered most in the last two games, he fell apart. It's not subject to debate, no one can dispute how badly he played when the team needed him most.

He MUST learn from that and get over it, which I believe he will. IF so, we are going to be a legit contender. IF not, we are gonna have to hope to do so in 3 years or so.

Tannehill has to improve and did improve this season but to act like the GM and all that don't matter is beyond silly, if the GM builds a line like we had last year it will be almost impossible for a qb to show improvement. He almost got ripped apart in the Buffalo game and yes he and many others did not perform versus the Jets. Tannehill by far not the weak link of this team and people tend to forget the games he came up big in and helped us win. Tannehill might have shown more improvement if they didn't jettison Reggie Bush.

Amazing how below average Ellerbee was as a linebacker without the Raven defense around him

Regardless of the game's importance, Southbeach asked to be shown two bad games in a row from Manning or Brady and he got it.
And he shouldn't have, because that divorces the two games from the surrounding context of those QBs' play.

Surely if Tannehill had set the world on fire against the Bills and Jets, we wouldn't have been (justifiably) comparing him to either Manning or Brady overall, so then why would his poor play in those games somehow put him on some sort of equal footing with them, based on only two games in their careers?

Ask a bad question, get a bad (or irrelevant) answer.

Saying it is a QB driven league is pointing out the obvious. However having a GM and OC who can help put talent around you, utilize your skill set, and execute an effective game plan is key to a quarterback's success. As everything there is a balance, you can't have a few straw men acting as GM and OC and expect Peyton Manning to take you to the Superbowl....

If all that mattered was Qb then why did Marino not win any superbowls. I mean didn't Joe Flacco win a superbowl last year and somehow played horrid this year.
Eli Manning has a few rings but yet was also horrid this year. Im also pretty sure that NE is not just in the championship game because they have Tom Brady.
If Qb is all that matters where is Green Bay at right now. Ben Rotlisberger somehow had a team record that was about the same as ours, say it isn't so. I wonder if people go back and look at Drew Brees early on was he already great. Anyone that thinks that you can get a great qb but yet ignore everything else and it will all fall in to place is sadly mistaken.

So as long as we get a GM and OC who aren't "straw men," and Tannehill improves considerably, we're good to go? I would agree with that.

Ironically, I think it's essentially a straw man to assume that the point I was making indicated that we could get "straw men" at those positions and still be successful.

i agree. there are many factors that go into a good season but #1 is on ryan.

it is subject for debate....there were many factors...dropped balls, buffalo abusing our lines, etc....

not subject to debate....pffft

of course it wasn't all on him but he was terrible the last 2 games and a huge reason why you didn't make the playoffs.

That's absolutely classic. The happy adjusters know no limit of absurdity.

Did he put up two consecutive clunkers in his second year (same as Tannehill BTW) or not? That was the challenge. All the rest of your BS is irrelevant to the question.

I responded with an example by an elite QB on purpose.

I have a new name for the clowns like you - "Angry Deniers". A bunch of agenda-driven whiny clowns whose sole mission is to deny anything good that Tannehill has done and deny anything bad that the "gods of quarterbacks" have done.

You'll never get through to the Angry Deniers....

Even the elite QBs have had horrible games with the season on the line or in the playoffs. Stop pretending this is unique to Tannehill. The Marino-led Dolphins lost 62-7 in Marino's last game. He was 3 of 11 for 12 yards until the last drive before halftime. Brady, Manning, and many others have had stinkers.

you are comparing losing a divisional playoff game on the road to putting up 7 pts in 2 games against 2 teams Miami was heavily favored against w/ their first playoff app since 2008 on the line? all QBs have bad games, some great ones have many bad games in the biggest games but how many led their O's to 7 pts in the final 2 games needing one win to get into postseason for the first time in 5 years and only the 2nd time in 12 years?

They were clunkers by Peyton Manning standards but they were still average QB performances. If you want another example of a QB going to **** besides Flacco this season look no further than Andy Dalton who has looked like total garbage week 17 and 18 every season. If we want to have a chance at a SB with Tannehill we need to win a lot of games early in the schedule and get out to huge leads early in games, a lot like what the Bengals have been doing with Dalton, then once we get in the playoffs hope he gets hot.
