I'm not going to tell you how to be a fan but it is short sighted your approach. You want a constant revolving door which breeds "mediocrity" so what stops you from using that "fan" card when the next guy gets in here and you want to fire him after 2 years as well?

It will get them nowhere if they just blow everything up again because the cycle will just continue.

Does it prove Crazy305's point? Why do I have to accept what we are? I want more than what we are. I want more than the mediocrity that has white-washed this fanbase. And guess what; all of you zombies don't get to tell me how I should feel about the franchise I have loved all of my life.

Expectations for this organization have fallen so low, it's really sad. Expecting anything above just competency is considered unreasonable. That speaks volumes about the state of this franchise.

Burnett was not very good last season and has been LOUSY this season in Oakland. I don't blame him for replacing Burnett. I blame him for replacing Burnett with bad, overpaid players.

Burnett wasn't bad last season though... that's revisionist history at its finest.

My opine is we need a younger, innovative mind at OC.

The games we lost, which were sack-filled and non-adjusting, prove this. Sherman is nearing 70? or is sixty something? I thought I read an opine about him being too old for this long season thing. Something as simply getting this offense to 25-30 points a game is the answer.

We need 4 OL, Tall azz TE like Graham, and a nice size RB.

One more year. If it dont work, we will be getting a new OC anyways.

Actually finfan, Mike Sherman just turned 59 on Dec 19th (last week). He's younger than Norv Turner, Mike Shanahan and Pete Carroll.

We're going off topic here but just to clear things up:

Both Burnett and Dansby had their best years with Miami last year. Both had solid to good years, although neither was especially good at causing turnovers (though Dansby was MUCH improved in pass coverage last season).

Neither Ellerbe or Wheeler has been very good, but neither has been as bad as being made out, either. They're both in the first year of a new system with new players. I expect to see a steady improvement from both players the longer they are in the system.

The defense is not our problem. It wasn't our problem last year and it is DEFINITELY not the problem this year. Our run defense is not our teams biggest problem. Our defense is not our teams problem. Our problems fall solely on the offensive end of the ball. We cannot score, we cannot sustain a drive, we cannot run the ball, and we cannot protect the quarterback (which in turn means we are doing nothing to protect our defense). Moreover, we do nothing to adjust to the opposition through the course of the game.

The lack of offensive production falls on Sherman. The inability to make any in-game adjustments falls completely on Philbin.

You want to lay blame on anyone, you can rest it at the feet of those two men.

Feel free to go back through my post history from last season and tell me if you see me singing his praises. I've never been a fan.

As for who I would have replaced them with? I don't know, I don't get paid to scout the 50+ free agents who are available or the 100+ rookie linebackers entering the draft or trying to make teams as UDFAs. I do know that we grossly overpaid the two guys we did sign and that they haven't been very good.

Or do you really think that Wheeler's two incredibly boneheaded personal foul penalties on critical third downs this season late in games have made him worth the money?

No i agree they were stupid penalties, but i'm not going to use that as an axe to grind against Ireland every chance i get.

I don't go around bashing Jeff Ireland in every thread. In fact, I've limited my bashing of Jeff Ireland to :

A) Threads about Jeff Ireland
B) Threads about the coaching staff that discuss whether this team suffers from a lack of talent, poor coaching, or both.

You might have me confused for someone else, though. In that case, I apologize for not being memorable enough.

If my belief that our coaching staff has a great deal of room for improvement in certain areas but is dealing with terrible personnel at several positions really seems outrageous to you, then that's fine. I'll be outrageous. But I can't see it any other way.

Not surprising. Coaches and players are oblivious to the fury of anti-revenge. The media never mentions it so they make the familiar sloppy assumption that they are in the advantage position, seeking revenge on the road. When the home team is in total frenzy from the outset of the game, determined to smack them in the mouth to verify that the previous result was not a fluke, they are unprepared and have no answer, often until it's too late.

The good news is that this week the anti-revenge angle works in our favor against the Jets. We'll be flying around out there early in the game, to borrow a term from Randy Shannon. The commentators will be shocked at such a contrast from a week earlier, with no clue that it makes perfect sense given the situational variables.

If you weren't singing his praises, then you're wrong. There really isn't much of a debate. Kevin Burnett had a great year last year. PFF had him as third in their OLB rankings. That isn't my justification but some support.

We have a terrible Oline, never picked up a LT, the line has lost starters, and created the biggest scandal of the year. That's a massive issue and it certainly showed yesterday. Who is responsible for our short comings there? That is where I would focus a lot of energy.

I don't pay attention to PFF's player grades. Some of their obscure statistics (like average time to throw) are interesting, but if you went by their player grades you would think that Ryan Tannehill was better than Tom Brady.

As always, I love reading this stuff. Even on those occasions when I think you're nuts. :)

I think this team is just as likely to come out flat after last week, but I certainly hope you're right.
