This coaching staff potentially hindering player development...

im all about giving matthews a shot in this offense. miller on the other hand....3rd down back. lets let moreno be our back and see what happens.

Why would miller be the 3rd down back? Id want my 3rd down back to be able to run throw tackles, block and catch the ball...

And you are not the first person i have seen say that.

 What do you win? A magical internet cookie?

Are you familiar with the quote? It was from Mohatma Gandhi where he was discussing his movement of non-violent resistance of the Indian people against the British colonial occupation of the Indian subcontinent in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. In his case what he won was the political freedom of about 1.2 billion (yes billion) people in India, Pakistan and Bengladesh from the British empire.

In this case I applied the quote because of the ridicule being heaped upon the poster simply because he expressed an opinion that maybe our coaching staff isn't the best in the NFL. That maybe they have some weaknesses in the area of player development. Given their results with the team I think the opinion is self-evident, but the poster was being ridiculed simply for stating the truth. It's very much like my experience with campaigning against Jeff Ireland on this board. In the beginning most people ignored me and people like me. Later when I and others who opposed Ireland made posts we were ridiculed. Eventually things moved to a stage where the Ireland fanboys tried unsuccessfully to actually argue their case. And then finally we won -- Ireland is gone and those who still believe he was the greatest General Manager in all the NFL have been silenced.

So, to answer the poster's question: what you win is credibility and respect.

You're blaming the wrong person for determining when Miller, Thomas, etc... Played. The guy who is 100% responsible was fired

I agree about Reggie... he wanted to stay, was a great franchise frontman, team player, hard worker and game-breaking threat. Whoever it was that decided to let him walk deserves mega-demerit points for being oblivious. I'm disappointed we didn't also fire Sherman's son in law who has no background or business coaching a raw, high potential QB and have to believe it was Philbin's mea culpa to Sherman after Ross forced him to fire his mentor. I don't think Turner's hard nosed "my way or the highway" served the OL well either. And of course there's Sherman who proved himself as clueless to today's offensive paradigms as was Henning. So there's that too when discussing whether our coaching staff set up the players for success or failure. It's hard to say how much input Philbin had in all of this (I do think he wanted Vontae and Marshall gone). So consequently it's hard to assign culpability other than all this crap happened on his watch which is important.

However given all of this, it's a learning experience for Joe too, many of problems have been exorcized and having a young offensive mind associated with a successful leading-edge offense like Lazor is hopeful. And having a seasoned proven OLC like Benton is very positive too. From what I've seen of Hickey - who doesn't have the ego of Ireland or a need to prove himself the smartest or most authoritarian, I'm inclined to think he would have resigned Reggie - which IMO was the biggest buggaboo of a bunch of them and capitulated to Philbin by trading for Albert. Although I still worry about who's coaching up Tannehill and hope that Lazor who owes Sherman nothing, intervenes on a hands on basis, more or less rendering Zac Taylor a figurehead, I'm hopeful most of this shizzle is now in our rearview mirror.

My understanding is Miller is bad on pass protect....and Matthews is a little dimmer than most in the light bulb department and has troubles with the playbook...An argument can be made on both sides that it could be poor coaching...or that it could be the limitations of the player.

I have to say that the offense was under Sherman last year. This year it's Lazor and see what he can do. Damn, give it some time first. It's not gonna click instantly. Let it play out.

So Ireland came and told Philbin who was going to be the starters on game day?? I can believe Ireland was the shooter on the grassy knoll, and was the sole cause of global warming, but now you're just piling on.

Actually last year Miller rated higher in pass protection than did Moreno. But few around here allow facts to get in the way of their agenda

They wouldn't make the roster....

Who are Matthews and Miller bearing out?

Funny you mention agenda when everything you post is filled with it....

The only Coaches on this entire staff I have any confidence in are Kasey Rogers and Lou Anarumo right now. The players are not developing because the other coaches are incompetent (including the Head Coach). Sparano had the same problem when he was here. If you are an incompetent Head Coach, you are not going to get quality assistants Seattle's DC turned down a contract extension when he was here. Look at him now. Keith Butler refuse to interview for the Defensive Coordinator's position because he thought Dick LeBeau was stepping down in Pittsburgh and he obviously felt better about the "Hip-Hop Head coach" than he did about ours.
