This game will tell me alot about Tannehill & Philbin. Can they lead us there?

In a sense we have a new breath of life. A clean slate. Everything is in front of us right now. We control our own destiny. If we want to make the playoffs its right there in front of us it just depends if this team gonna put everything aside get focused and really want it. But the two guys Im looking at are Ryan Tannehill and Joe Philbin. Before the season started we were promoting ourselves as a playoff team. So lets see if these 2 men are the men we need leading this franchise going forward. Excuses or no excuses. Distractions or no distractions. Bullygate or no bullygate. Depleted oline and WR core and the whole country hates u right now. 6 games with every chance at the playoffs right now. Grasp and go. Lets see. Be leaders of men and take your team into the playoffs. Phins Up

So if Dolphins lose RT is a bust and JP suck? Im just asking.... Im not a bully, please dont sue me

We should be targeting the CB from the Panthers I think #23, White? I saw some of the Monday Night game and he seemed to be struggling against a rookie WR

That rookie WR for the Pats named Thompkins is pretty good.

This game is only going to magnify what we already know:

We have one of the worst OL's in the NFL

We have one of the worst running games in the NFL

Nothing is going to change this week, next storyline.

I hope so because I'm in the Charlotte area and I've heard some interviews with Cats players today. They are very, very mindful that Sunday's game could be a trap game for them, so those guys sound focused. Philbin and Tannehill need to be razor sharp for these guys.

Yhe only reason miami is in playoff contention is because houston, baltimore, pitt and a coulple of other teams all suck this year. Nornally those teams would be 8-2 7-3 right now and miami and any other team that is 5-5 4-6 would be done. But it is what it is so they will find a way to **** it all up. They always do right??

On paper this game looks like a bad match up. I see a stagnant offense struggling and punting in the first half, but our defense keeps it close. The big question I would like to see answered is can this coaching staff learn to make adjustments at halftime? Successful coaches recognize things that aren't working, and implement plans to correct them. Although it could be argued that we don't have the talent necessary to implement those plans...

Agreed. I am currently in favor of dumping Philbin as I don't think he is anything more than mediocre, but if he wins this game and brings us to playoffs, my opinion may change.

Statement game

I'll say this. I think the Panthers are going to drub us like 20-6 or 24-9, something like that. But, Joe Philbin has a chance to impress me here. Find a way to put 20+ on the board in this one, and I'll be impressed.

Joe and his staff do little in making me think they conjure up something and have their team play to a higher level and get a win vs. a great team. In fact, they often play below their ability IMO.

To have any chance of winning they need to turn Tannehill loose to hopefully extend plays with his feet when needed.

Pouncey appears he will play so that will help but I am not sure how they will slow down Cam Newton and the Panthers offense for the whole game.

I don't think we can compete with them up front and that's not on anyone but Jeff Ireland.

THIS! Don't think RT or any QB for that matter can carry a team to victory if he's flat on his back or running for his life. I think the guys up front will decide the game.

Excellent points, however.......the Phinz offensive line is simply NO match for the Panthers defensive line IMHO, that's a fact. When your offensive line is just over matched there really is not much you can do. If you go max protect....then only 2 receiver's are running patterns (that's clearly not good). Every time that you have to help one of your linemen...that's one less person to throw to (that's clearly not good). If the Phinz OL could just play decent (not great or even good) just decent then the Phinz could have had a truly special season. Hopefully the Phinz draft TWO really good tackles plus an elite guard next year to fix the cappy OL. I don't understand why so many people on this site do not understand how important having a decent offensive line is, Man it's basic football 101 you win in the trenches period :-(

That is why this game might be a good evaluation of Philbin. The way to neutralize the DL advantage is to go heavy set for at least 60% of the plays. We need either 2 TE sets or 6OL and a TE. It should be a single back set. Dare them to load the box, and put it on Wallace and Hartline. Max protect with two WR sets. Let's see some coaching.

Exactly, game planning against their strength to compensate for our weakness

We were kicking the Pats A**ss in their own house b4 the refs started screwing us. We looked a lot better that the Panthers did in Carolina. Let's get back to that ass kicking....

I'm not saying we are going to win but and this may sound crazy. Our offense matches up really well against the Panthers. Their Dline is beasting and will beat up on our line but Their secondary is their weakness. They do not have the guys to take on Wallace, Hartline and Matthews. Clay could be neautralized by Davis and Kuechley but if we stay in nickel and throw short passes right from the start we will be able to move the ball. The Pats actually moved the ball in this way and I don't think their receivers are nearly as good as ours. We have to pick our spots to go deep in this as well. Three step long throws could work because Wallace creates seperation so quickly. I don't think we will be able to run at all but I would put the pressure on their dbs with WR Screens all day. I would throw to my receivers the first 10 plays. Loosen them up. I would move the pocket tons and wear out theri big guys as their depth is not that great.

On Defense, Jordan should play every snap this game as purely a shadow for Cam. Every play. Have Jordon do lots of delayed blitzes. Have Wake and Vernon contain and sick our DTs to push the pocket. Make Cam throw without his feet. Very inaccurate when he just uses his arms. NO stunts or twists on 1st and 2nd down. Don't create running lanes. Grimes and Smith will be a nice battle all day.
