This has to be a joke!

Just like every other guy that left the Sith rule, they got better when they had real coaches tht knew what they were doing. It happend alot under the former rule. Now the Darkside has been overthrown and the younglings can grow and prosper.

We have Obiwon(Saban) to thank for the demise of the sith lords demise!

I remember that draft like it was yesterday... Fletcher and Chambers were the two players I had great expectations for. We know how Chambers worked out, but with Madison and Surtain around Fletcher never really had a shot to do much.

I'm glad to see he's working out well in San Diego!! Go Jamar!!

guys, don't remind me :( ....I hate to say it, but right now we could sure use J. Fletcher!!!! ....but then again, Boston is here.

You my friend are very smart....IMHO: I think he lost the "swagger" that he needs to have as a CB in the NFL. Not criticizing the Fins organization, but I think Wanny and Co. had a lot to do with his "downfall" in a Fins uniform. You would think having arguably 2 of the best corners in the NFL could help him, but I think it did the opposite- it took away his confidence and the ability to learn 1 v 1 coverage. Hope he snaps out of it. You dont have numbers like him in college if you dont know how to play....just my thought.

Do you mean to tell all of us Dolphin fans that Wanny and Co. had a lot to do with downfalls of players? Are you saying that Wanny couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag? ;)

LOL: Nah, I just dont like being critical of situations Im not too familiar with. Im an outsider looking in, you guys know more what happened so if I started to say, "I knew, he should;ve, etc..." well, it wouldnt hold much water.

But in this case, I think it was simply the case of a player being in the wrong system. Its really similar to Steve Foley in a 3-4 system where we can utilize his big forehead to get the QB.

He did a fine job of coaching his way out of not one but two jobs! So a bag, maybe not! But a job, DEFINETLY!!!!

He's been doing well in San Diego. Just because Wanny reached for him in the draft (MAJOR reach) and also that he didn't fit into the man on man coverage we used at the time, doesn't mean he's a horrible player. It seems like he's found a home with the Chargers and their CB friendlier zone coverages.

He didn't reach, he just picked a CB that wouldn't do well in our past system. That doesn't make where he was picked a reach pick.

No reason to be bitter... he was in the wrong system here... doesn't mean he was bad, just was never a good fit in Miami

Exactly!

The thing about the Avery selection is that Randy Moss was still on the board...JJ's worst draft blunder ever!!!!!!!!:shakeno:

What pick did we spend on that gem Cecil "The Diesel" Collins?

Fletcher isn't a horrible player, just never fit the system we played here (press coverage, shutdown corner every play). We should never have drafted him, and he never worked for us, that doesn't mean he'll suck everywhere.

We got David Boston for him so we got the better end of the deal.
I never thought he was that bad, I just didn't think CB was a priority in that draft.
He has been maligned for the pass interference at the end of the NE game a few yrs back, but on review of that play you can see that he had textbook coverage and made a great play on the ball. It was a ridiculous pass interference that he didn't deserve. In fact, the WR on that play went over his back and should have drawn an offensive pass interference.
I was thinking the same thing i seem to remember him being called for pass int. atleast 3 or 4 times where the replay showed GREAT coverage.

Jamar Fletcher was a bigtime playmaker at Wisconsin, both at corner and on special teams. As a sports bettor I loved him because he won a huge bet for me by returning a blocked FG for a TD at the very end of a game.

Positionally the draft pick made no sense but I never fault taking playmakers. Fletcher was one of the most surprising busts we've ever had, IMO. He was pitiful regardless of the opponent or assignment. Everyone talks about the pass interference against NE but I remember a half dozen or more major botches. I guess I didn't fully grasp how much a different cover scheme could alter performance until that draft pick.

That mean AJ and Gus are in the wrong system---only joking :)

This was out of ESPN's PFW Whispers section...
• The CB competition between Drayton Florence and Sammy Davis for the job opposite Quentin Jammer in San Diego never materialized, as Florence clearly outplayed the former first-round pick in camp. As of this writing, Davis was in a battle with the surprising Jamar Fletcher for the team's nickel CB job.

"the suprising Jamar Fletcher"....his drafting marked the beginning of the end of the Dolphins as we knew them. Wanny's first MAJOR draft blunder....many more followed.

should we be surprised that a former first round pick is holding down the nickel back position?
