This is how close the top 9 players in the draft are rated

Hell no I wouldn't take it. Not when value says that this pick is worth the 7th pick AND the 18th pick, plus more.

Only a ****ing moron would trade down from 2 to 7 and only get a 2nd round pick in return.

I agree and disagree. If we think the 3 RB's are all about equal, and not much seperates them, then why not take WHATEVER we can get? We then pay the first pick less garunteed money, plus we pick up a 2nd round pick. I say take whatever we can get to move down if we are going to take a RB anyway. If we are want Smith or Edwards, then play hardball.

This is PFW's rankings of the top nine prospects, with their grade:

1. Alex Smith, QB, Utah - 6.75
2. Cedric Benson, RB, Texas - 6.75
3. Braylon Edwards, WR, Michigan - 6.70
4. Ronnie Brown, RB, Auburn - 6.70
5. Cadillac Williams, RB, Auburn - 6.65
6. Antrell Rolle, CB, Miami - 6.65
7. Aaron Rodgers, QB, California - 6.60
8. Mike Williams, WR, USC - 6.60
9. Carlos Rogers, CB, Auburn - 6.60

0.15 points is all that separates the top 9 in the draft, according to PFW. This is why none of you can say that so and so isn't worth the 2nd pick. There are 9 players in this draft that are so closely rated together that they could go in any order.

Can you post last years top 9 picks? I just want to see what all the hoopla is about these players being not as good. I just think it would be interesting to compare.

So, let's just make a trade for the hell of it? Absolutely not!! You either get the value the pick is worth, or you keep the pick.

That's BS....there are plenty of souces that say that Braylon Edwards may well be the best player in the draft.
Thats just their opinion. There is no one that can for sure say Edwards is the best player in the draft or that he will be better than anyone. We won't know that until he is in the league.

I don't think so, not this year. If we ARE going to take a RB at #2, there are 3 really good ones to choose from. The signing bonus between #2 and #7 in probably about 5-8 million dollars. On a six year deal, that is close to over 1 million a year in cap savings. Plus, now you can maybe take a QB of the future, or a young DL in with the second pick.

Now, if Alex Smith is there, or if we only want a certain RB, then no, don't trade just for the heck of it. Keep the pick, get the guy you want. But, if you really don't think that the 3 RB's are that different, make any trade you can to move down and save the money, and get another player.

It's not for the hell of it, it is to better the team. If and only if you are saying there is not that much difference between the #2 player and the #5 player. In my opinion (and it's just that an opinion). I will take the player with equal value and pick up another player that will most likely help the team out. We are not talking a 6th or 7th round pick that probably won't make the team, we are talking a 2nd. How can another player not help the team, along with the cash savings from the difference in draft slots. Especially when you are talking about a team trying to clean up a cap mess.

You are talking about taking 800 points less in value for the pick, which is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!!

Interesting that Alex Smith grades out as high or higher than Eli and Ben last year.

It is interesting to see that 3 of those players were not drafted in the top 10. I wonder how many in this year's draft will fall out.

Doesn't say much for their evaluation does it. I don't think Saban goes by anyone's chart except his own.

I agree but, my point was to counter what KB said about Braylon being the best player "only in the minds of some fans", and that's not true.

Says who, the draft chart that Jimmy made up. Again because the chart says so, this is what you do. A coach/GM isn't smart enough to decide by themselves what is better for the team in the long run? You are talking players with equal value, not players with a huge gap.

Well I like Benson, Brown and Williams and have them all rated the same so I really don't care which I get, oh wait a team wants to offer me a 2nd round pick to drop a few spots and still be able to have one of my equal value players. Let's see what the chart says, oops nope the chart says no way, guess I can't do it. Man and I really liked xxx player that I could have gotten with that 2nd round pick.

Sorry I don't see it. If they are set on somebody like Smith and they know if they trade down they will not get him or somebody with equal value to the team then yes I see the pick having value to the team, but if your trading down and getting what you want anyway then I say the more picks the better.

This goes the same for what Rodgers is going through right now, the rules say he should be paid a percentage more then last years #1, so now he's offered less then that and says "no that is not aceptable, the rules say I should be getting x% more." Now he drops dow to at least 5 if not further and loses millions of dollars, but that is ok because he stuck to the rules.

Maybe I am a sucker but if I had to chose to take exactly what the #1 pick got last year and what the #5 pick will get this year, I am swallowing my pride and counting the extra millions in my bank account, I would then make them pay when it was time to renegotiate.

Rules and charts are there for guidelines not to follow to the letter.

Of course. So you take less than the pick is worth, and you get laughed out of the league.

Nick Saban has already stated more than once that he will go by the value chart. I'm sure glad he and not some of you is the GM. Hell, we would have already traded Patrick Surtain for a 4th round pick and dealt the second pick for far less than value if some of you were running things.
