I know this is late but It took me forever to get home, and I had to cook for my mother, who is sick, then I needed a nap, then It took me two hours to review my brain tape....
Once again it was a nice day, not too hot, actually it was around 85 in the stands. I almost had to go get my jacket because I freeze at 72. Don't be laughing at this line, because I know I like to make jokes in my reports, but this one aint funny.
Today A J Feeley was a no show, which had me worried until I herd on the way home that he had a tummy ache. This may not please the fans much, but I know two people that were happy, and were probably the ones who put visine in his drinking water. Brock Berlin, and Sage saw some action.
The Qb's
Ferrotte was belting out some directions today to some of the Wr's missing their routes. He also connected on 4 nice TD passes. Two of them were to Chambers, and both of those were over Travis Daniels. The sweetest pass of the day was when he threw a nicely timed pass to Chambers who was right at the corner of the endzone. Chambers had to lay out to get it, but if thrown right to him, Reggie Howard would have picked it off, instead Howard ended up the goat. The pass was a perfect spiral, thrown just right.
Sage was not too shaby, he made one nice touch pass of 20-25 yds. He just lofted it up just as the Wr's broke free. The ball was throw fairly high up. The Corner (I'm not sure who) swore he was going to get to it, but it was about a yard too high. The ball landed perfectly, right over the shoulder of the Wr, who I think was Gilmore, or Boston.
Berlin got in his share of work today. On one throw he hit a blade of grass perfectly! Too bad the Wr was about 10 yards away or he might have caught it. I know I need to lay off him because it was just that he made a mistake, but he made that mistake three times today. One thing is that he did complete more than a few passes, but none over 20 yards. To his credit, he looked comfortable throwing from a roll out.
Wr's
Darrius Thompson had the nicest catch of all practices today. The ball was about 7 feet off the ground, and thrown a little to far in front of him. He was having none of that. He laid out almost completely horizontal, and at about 5 foot off the ground, he just reached out and snatched the ball out of the air. DT landed a little hard, and after taking a bunch of high five's he started limping when he got back behind all the players for some water. He gets a 5 star plus from me and once again emerged himself to be a candidate for camp MVP.
Chamber's was giving the Rookie a run for his money today. I think he kicked it up a notch today.
McMicheal had a real nice diving catch today, and one other good thing is that the Qb's looked like they had some good timing going on with him.
Boston had one bounce right off his chest today, and he was not happy about it. The next pass he was having nothing to do with dropping it. He also had to dive and reach for it, while trying to keep in bounds. The refs indicated that it was indeed a catch.
Wes Welker caught three that I remember, one being a nice fly pattern. Dudes got some speed.
Booker made a nice reception in tight coverage, and had two more that I saw.
Rb's
Gordon was running well again today. But the running up the middle was pretty much non existent.
Sammy Morris was OK
Ricky was once again handling his business. Today they ran goaline plays, and on his first run, he bounced it outside because he had too, and either Pope, or Jenkins gave chase. Ricky might have outran him but that might made Ricky say OK lets see what I got. He went right at the Lb, who hit him head on, but Ricky's momentum carried him into the endzone. Now I've seen him bull people over before, and even though he won this time, it could have been better. I say that because he gave me that impression. He kind of slammed his fist to the ground like he did something wrong, even though he scored. I look at it as just getting his feet wet again. He also, once again, had a nice outside run today that gained about 12 yards. If he reaches the corner, they best hope someone's taking an angle on him because with his speed, plus being hard to take down, it's scary the thought.
K. J. Harris got hurt today, and laid on the ground holding his knee for at least 5 minutes. They actually moved their drill forward so he could be attended too. I know it was his knee, and was worried it was serious by the way laid there in obvious pain. He was finally helped off the field, and placed on a bench where the trainers put a pack on it. But wait! It was about 10 minutes later that I see him back on the field. But wait!! It gets better!! He got his turn next after that. So he proceeded to bust one of the best runs in all four days. He took the handoff running right, and got a heck of a block from Rodney Reed, and Macintosh. That is what we call a hole!! He had one Lb standing in his way at the line, and when he cut it in, he faked a cut outside, then cut back farther inside, leaving some Lb's tennis shoes in that spot, and some Lb on his (_)_) looking for them. A very sweet 45 yard touchdown run from KJ Harris.
Travis Minor had a couple of nice sweeping runs, and one good inside run.
The Oline
McKinney must be reading Finheaven these days because today he actually held his own against Keith Tractor Traylor in one on ones. He was getting his hands in under Traylors underarms, which is right where they need to be for leverage. Oh but that was one on ones. In team drills the middle was not the way to get yards today, not running, and not against the first team. He was better in pass protections though.
MacDugal was back on first team, and as someone pointed out to me yesterday, I would not take too much stock if the units get a different look now and again. Because Macintosh was practicing both LT, and RT, and was in with the third team a lot today.
Hadnot still hasnot worked at Center, which is my prayer. He did not have a great practice though. Kevin Carter got the best of him in one on ones. It did not seem to sway Hadnot much because they usually go against each other twice then go to the next man. Hadnot was trying to sneak in three chances. Houck sent in a replacement, and let him sulk for a minute before showing him a few reasons why he lost.
Whitley was at LG, and he took the goat plaque from McKinney today. He got beat bad in one on ones, but he is a better player when they go 11 on 11. Not that it says much but I'm going to be very curious to see if Houck can coach him up, and suit him for the zone.
Wade Smith got caught by me a couple of times today. Man I hope, no I again pray that it was meant to be because when he snapped the ball one time, he threw his hands up as to block but no one was there, so he just stood there for a second then threw a helping chip block for nothing. The play was over. The second time, he snapped the ball and runs forward, again no one there, but I'm thinking HIT SOMEONE! He just skipped in the same spot. I hope it has to do with staying within his zone or something because I'm getting a little confused.
Jason Thomas has been doing an OK job at Center working third team. He is another big boy, who is listed as a guard. He gets off when he snaps very well, but he still needs some work on his technique. Getting under your man at Center is a must, and he tends to drive his man to the side too much. BUT he move his man at least.
OK now, I'm on Vacation, and I have not been to an entertainment club in a couple of days, so the defensive part of this will have to wait. I'll merge it here and mark the title offense and defense when I'm done.
If anyone has some questions I'll try to answer them all, so fire away.
Hope u enjoy.
