Time to drop some dead weight off the ship...

no way Howard gets cut, Thompson is a great #4 WR and won't get cut, Lee is the player who I see getting cut. with Diamond and Holmes at back-up TE we don't need Lee's idiotic play and bad hands on this team

Are you implying that Thompson is the only receiver on the team that drops passes? You have shown nothing that demonstrates that he is not worthy of the #5 WR spot on the roster. Sorry....

Nope, never implied that. You've shown nothing to demonstrate that he should keep a spot on this team. Welker can have the #5 spot.

IMO, with Linehan at OC we keep 5 WR's in order to have some flexibility - or more accurately, to have less predictability in the passing game.

so who does that leave? chambers, booker, boston, gilmore, welker? that sounds good. i'm keeping my fingers crossed that boston can get it done this year. as for the wr cut, judging by some of saban's interviews, he may cut the guy he thinks will not be snapped up by anyone else, just in case he needs him back. that may very well be thompson. but there's a long way to go...

Last year in the preseason, I had a gut feeling that Boston would not play a down for the team in '04, and it was right on. More due to bad luck than any precognitive ability on my part, obviously.

But this year, I have a gut feeling that Boston will be very valuable to the team. I hope I go 2-for-2!

:D

Hey, and don't forget Kendall Newsome, he's been talked up as tearing it up in camp this year.

Thank you. and that's all I was saying; make room for guys who will be able to help us, stop keeping the personnel failures of the past.

Who has shown anything from this group:

Newsom
Farmer
Welker
Mann
Davis

If you are going to cut Thompson, you have to replace him with someone.

i'll accept that you have precognitive ability, as long as it keeps going! talk about a WR corps that can get the extra safety out of the box!

I'll take Danny Farmer over Thompson. Thompson can't be counted on. If he had never scored the TD last season against the Pats, no one would be defending him.

I agree 100% on Farmer, the guy is very Cherbret like, he is not flashy, not very fast, but just gets open and catches the ball. We need a guy like that!

I showed that he had the 2nd most TDs from the WRs last year. Welker? please....

newsome does have the advantage of being able to catch punts. gilmore just looks more solid out there as a WR, but that could just be me subconsciously worrying that newsome will get hurt again...

He has 43 catches in 5 years. 0 catches in the last two years.

welker will be tough to cut due to his returning ability alone.

Yeah, Newsome needs to prove that he's not fragile. It'd be nice to see him get some field time Saturday.

Most of the top receivers in the NFL are on that list. Compare the number of dropped passes to caught passes. Thompson had 4 dropped passes last season with only 23 catches. That isn't a very good percentage. He's been dropping passes ever since he came into the NFL. He had this same problem in Washington.

I'm neither supporting or defending DT. IMO he is an average WR for the third or fourth spot on the depth chart. He is certainly expendable IF you have someone better to replace him with. I only did the search because sometimes perception doesn't equal reality. I remember a few years back Tony Martin had a rep for dropping passes but then Stats Inc did an article on it and when you compared drops to attempts he was actually near the top of the list for best hands.

PS - I don't see the dropped passes stat in your link.
