Toub

I have a friend who is a Bears fan. He has a very poor opinion of everyone in the entire Bears organization except for Toub. He agrees with the assesment that Toub will make a great HC.

I support that choice. I could go with others, but I do support the idea of Toub.

He is an intriguing candidate, and if he has the endorsement of Lovie Smith and Andy Reid, that's good enough for me... But man, people will FREAK OUT if it's Toub. They better win quick, or Ross will have to give tickets away.
Toub is not a sexy hire and will not sell more tickets. Ross won't win with his introductory press conference and it is likely the casual Dolphins fan won't know who he is. It will likely cause initial backlash from some fans and probably even some media members. But the fans who know him best, Bears fans, love him and actually were calling for the Bears to replace Lovie Smith in 2010 with Toub. The people he has worked with praise him.

A second interview sounds to me like they want to make a move and get this behind them. No reason to interview him twice when there are people you haven't interviewed once, unless you weren't going to interview them, anyway.

To me, Philbin sounds like more of a coat-tail rider. Doesn't McCarthy call the plays? If that is the case, then the offensive coordinator is not really doing enough to make him a head coach in my opinion.

There is buzz, rumors, speculation, whatever you want to call it that Toub will be getting a second interview with the Dolphins, possibly as soon as tomorrow. I said this over a week ago that I think he and is the most intriguing candidate, even more so than guys like Philbin, Zimmer and Chud. Yes, he is a special teams coach, but so was John Harbaugh. Andy Reid called him a future head coach and Bobby April said he is one of the best coaches in the NFL, regardless of position.

He might not get the job, but he would probably be my choice now that Fisher went to the Rams.
I dont know how you can conclude this without knowing who his coaching staff is. Harbaugh has a pretty good staff. He obviously needs coordinators.

Again, good enough for me. I'd be willing to give him a shot based on all of the good things I've heard. Its just gonna be VERY tough to sell that hire to the fanbase as a whole, and the media. So again- they better win quick, or that stadium will be an absolute ghost town.

Well the quesiton is would he also bring any continuity with him as well. Would Nolan then stay on and keep the defense in tact?

F*ck what the media and fans think. It wouldn't matter if Bill Belicheck himself quit the Patriots, became our head coach, cloned a 1984 version of Dan Marino, and won 10 consecutive Superbowls. The fans and media would rip on this team because they didn't do that a year earlier. This is a fan base that is perpetually miserable. Also, for whatever reason, the media LOVES to portray Ireland and Ross in the worst possible light, deserved or not. It's truly a damned if you do, damned if you don't thing.

I say hire the guy. If he starts winning, games are going to sell. If he got Fisher, he'd have higher ticket sales the first few games, but people would stop coming after we lost a few. Ticket sales are going to reflect the record of the team, popularity of the coach is irrelevant. If he wins, tickets will sell...

Ireland's gonna want a low key coach so Toub will probably be the guy and I'm fine with that. Much better than a nutcase like Zimmer.

I can't remember which of the writers tweeted it (maybe Dave Hyde) but one of them said sources had told him that Dave Toub had hit it out of the park during his interview with the Dolphins.

Guys on Sirius radio (PK especially) have spoken highly of Toub. They basically stated he's very well respected as a future HC throughout the league.
