Trade Alonso This Offseason?

On this weeks 3 Yards Per Carry it was suggested that we need Kiko to ball out , especially against the Patriots, to maximize his trade value. I could not agree more.

Should we? His value won't be higher than it is now right?
Trade market doesn't open until the middle of March 2019. The draft is a month later. Kiko will be an afterthought at that point. Might be able to use him to move up a round, probably the best value you'll get out of him.

What am I missing? Dude has how many picks and fumbles? A blocked punt? Tackles. Yes, trade him since we have 3 Lawernece Taylor’s waiting in the wings.

What a non-sense post and statement.
Once again this proves the hate the guy continues to get on this board.

Without even trying hard he's been the most productive LB we've had since ZT.

Name one other player on defense outside of "X" that has made more plays/generated more T/Os?

I dare you to name 5 LBs in the entire NFL with more T/Os than Alonso?

Nonsense? Here's where you're missing the point on Alonso. You don't judge the effectiveness of a linebacker on turnovers. The very fact that you believe Kiko has been our most productive linebacker since ZT tells me you're not watching the game closely enough.

Watch Kiko carry out his basic assignments on run plays and pass plays. More often than not, he's either in the wrong gap, over run the play, or gotten washed out downfield. His tackle totals are misleading because most of those tackles are not within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage. He also routinely loses his coverage responsibility. Teams are still completing an insane amount of targets when they go Kiko's way.

Let me ask you a question. Do you think our run defense has struggled just because McMillan is struggling? How about last year when McMillan wasn't playing?

Baker is our best linebacker. No question. You have overrated Kiko based on a few splash plays.

How does Kiko staying prevent us from being the 29th ranked defense (out of 32)?

Righttt.....

Not a good idea to cut the only LB that has been halfway decent this year. His cap is 8mill........we'd save 4.47mill but the dead money would be 3.525mill........now add the money you'd pay his replacement and what did we gain?
In 2020 you can cut him and the dead money is only 1.7mill so till then, he's not going anywhere.
As far as trading him, yes I'd take a 1st or a 2nd but nothing less.

I like Kiko. He's a solid LB and he's young.

But this team needs to build through the draft. I'd take a 2nd rounder minimum.

As someone mentioned, the problem is having to trust our drafting (thats almost a punch line to be accompanied with laughter).

You could say that about every guy on the D. Trade Minka. Trade Howard. Such idiotic logic. When a team isn’t good, all it’s players stink - even the ones that are making big plays - and thus expendable. When a team is good, those same guys are suddenly indispensable. Give me one other LB since Zach Thomas who made as many big plays as Kiko? Cause so many guys have had game winning pick 6’s, goal line tackles on a scrambling QB to win a game, picked off / recovered 6 fumbles/INTs in 11 games so far this season, blocked a punt etc. If your D is making plays like that and your offense goes 3 and out after each gift wrapped possession I guess you may as well trade the playmaker since his big plays don’t matter to the outcome of the game. MacMillan will be lucky to have 3 picks in his entire NFL career. I’ll keep a LB for $6.5mil who gives me 7-8 takeaways a year. Duh.

PS - also, Kiko sending guys to the infirmary each year is a talent (Garappolo, Flacco, guy on Colts who’s bell he rung) - most our LBs gently help guys to the ground w an escort.

Someone w common sense - thank you.

You could, but Minkah ($400K) and Howard ($1 million) COMBINED don't make a QUARTER of what Kiko makes ($8 million) in base salary.

Hell, Kiko isn't even the highest rated LB on the team.

This is the same goofball who ran to the opponent's sideline. Seems like Flacco knocked a screw loose on Kiko.

"Sending guys to the infirmary" is your criteria for a good LB...but maintaining your gap, excelling in coverage and not being targeted by OCs and their TE's, tackling a RB BEFORE they are 5 yards past the LOS obviously mean nothing to you.

I'll just say this...you have BETTER be a fan of Tannehill is you are going to defend this Average Joe named Kiko.

I’d give him away at this point.

Having anyone else would be an upgrade over him. Box score LBers are the NFL’s favorite.

Draft Devin White and watch the defense magically get better. Kick Kiko to the curb for all I care.

Look, I don’t think Kiko is some superstar but he makes plays. Jerome Baker made a play this year w a pick 6. We have had a cavalcade of LBs who don’t make plays - Crowder, Misi, etc too many to list. I guess I just don’t see how you replace his production so easily. We trade him and next thing you know Philip Wheeler 2.0 is starting at his spot.

For the record, I met Tannehill and watched about 40 minutes of the Denver-Seattle SB w him (posted the thread w pic here) - he’s a GREAT guy and the classiest person you could ever meet. I’ve rooted for him and supported him and yes, am a fan of him. At this juncture though I’m inclined to feel as if we need to be thinking about our next QB soon - and no, I don’t want a veteran retread but we’ve got to take a young guy soon that has a chance to be “the guy” in the next couple years. Or, get rid of Gase and this system of offense that doesn’t work no matter who is behind center. And I hate Kiko’s belly shirt to boot.

I hear you on having playmakers on defense, but how many fumbles or interceptions does it take to make up for the number of times Kiko fails to read the correct key, or takes a poor angle, or fills the wrong gap?

I’m really high on Howard and Minkah going forward because when you watch them, it’s rare that they are completely out of position. It’s rare that they’re losing technique. Howard especially is becoming a fundamentally sound, consistent, young player. I believe Minkah has shown enough as a rookie to believe he’s just going to get better and better.

Why hasn’t this team been able to find decent linebackers? I have no clue. I just know Kiko is hurting the defense. McMillan is hurting the defense, granted it’s really his first year. Looking at the safety position, as many plays as Reshad Jones has made, sometimes he freelances and he hurts the defense.
