Trade for Peyton?

theres a good chance Peyton retires if he's cut. Ever think of that?
I think people are underestimating the severity of his injury.

Nobody discounted that possibility. In fact, almost every person on this thread has made reference to the importance of conducting a proper physical examination on the guy. It is possible that Peyton retires, but I strongly think that, given even a marginal opportunity, Peyton will try his utmost to get back on the field. The guy is a baller.

If Manning gets cut, it's because his injury is too severe to play football any longer. Who in their right mind would cut a healthy Manning? NOT realistic at all.

mort said today that irsay is not gonna trade manning...said it won't happen

People are also forgetting the fact that at NO time has Irsay publicly stated that Manning wont stay and let Luck sit for his first year. It makes a ton more sense than by just releasing Manning. Peyton recovers from the injury, plays well and then Indy trades him to the team of his choice and gets a few 1st rounders for him. I find it very unlikely that they just let him go.

I don't think many fans realize that a fusion surgery to the spine requires a metal or titanium plate being screwed into the vertebra ... Not only does the plate restrict movement of the area but also has residual affects to the nerves that are related to the area of the fusion ... The risk comes from the possibility of the vertebra snapping and causing paralysis to the individual!!! Now imagine if more than 1 level of the spine is fused, it causes even more risk and more complications to the nerve endings and areas those nerves run through ...

I though Manning said they he and Luck would not be on the same team? Might not be his choice. But this raises another possibility, what if the Colts pick RGIII? Then they could keep Manning and have a RGIII sit and learn, since he may not be as "Luck ready" to play.

I don't think that would make too much sense. Luck being more ready than RGIII does not necessarily entail that RGIII should be the pick. If anything, the Colts would be better off taking Luck and have him sit behind Peyton.

My hypothetical is based on three assumptions:

1) Colts draft Luck
2) Manning remains healthy enough to play
3) Luck outplays Manning (highly unlikely if premise #2 is to be accepted, but nonetheless)

In this situation you'd have to assume that Isray would at least explore the possibility of trading the veteran to fill the many glaring needs on the Colts.

If the Colts decide to entertain offers, what would you give up for a healthy Manning? I ask this because the cost of such an endeavour would most likely be cheaper than the cost of trading up for the #1 pick.
