Trade next years first rounder?

3rd and 5th for Rivers and some tickets to the San Diego Zoo.!!!!
 
I would trade our first rounder next year for Rivers. It would be a good trade since I do not see us getting Lienart in the draft. It won't happen but it would be a good trade.

Please name me one. No way there are any better QBs in next years draft than Rivers. I would do it in a second, only problem is SD wouldn't do it. They may give us Brees for a 1st and a 2nd.
 
Ive got a nice Rookie card of Rivers if we pick him up Its Value will go down in a month!

This makes absolutley no sense.

You talk as if a player is draft then he is a sure thing, but if you trade for him then he is not. Not that I'm a Rivers fan, but the guy was drafted high, its not like the two players you referenced above, who were later Rd. picks although Gordon was traded for the same Rd he was drafted.

If Miami trades for Rivers, then what is the difference between that and drafting a college QB? Both would be high picks and in fact Rivers may even be the higher pick.

As for the fans reaction if he does not set the NFL on fire right out of the gate, it would be the same for any QB. Miami fans do not understand player developement.

If you can explain this to me correctly then you get a cookie. I doubt you can though because trading for Rivers would clearly be the better option.

So trading a high first round pick for Rivers isn't investing a high draft pick for a quarterback? :hmmm: It's not like Rivers is old, he's practically a rookie.

We're not talking about tradfing away futures for unkowns like Lamar Gordon or AJ Feeley we're talking about drafting a kid who could have gone number 1 overall in the 2005 draft if he were in it.
 
While I wouldn't advocate a trade for Brees, Rivers would be a completely different story. I would trade my number 1 in 2006 for Rivers in a heartbeat, no QB in the first round next year will be able to compare with Rivers' talent. IMO folks.

Here's to BREES setting the NFL on fire this year!
 
If we gave our 1st round pick right this minute for Rivers, I'd be pumped. Draft a rookie next year? Let's compare:

Rivers--signed QB aching for a chance to lead a team. A guy that almost everyone in the NFL predicts success for; or

A rookie QB: 3 years behind Rivers, and unsigned. Don't forget a signing bonus for this kid would be a lot higher than what Rivers has now.

No contest. Thing is San Diego wouldn't do it.
 
To me it depends on a few things.

#1 : Where are we drafting? I'm not in favor of trading a pick in the top 8 for Rivers or Brees with the talented players coming out. The problem with that though is I'm also not in favor of drafting a quarterback too high in the draft, (top 5 for instance) at least until there's a cap on how much rookies can get in guarantees. If Smith got 24 million this year, how much do you think next year's QB will want.

#2 : Is San Diego only going to accept a first rounder? You remember how much they got from the Giants for Manning so, are they going to try to get the same type of deal they got from the Giants?

#3 : If we did trade for Rivers or Brees what would happen with their contracts? Brees is definitely going to want a lot of money and Rivers may even want a new contract being that he's going to be a starter. Both of them would want a lot of guaranteed money.
