Trading Ellerbe and/or Wheeler?

Many are looking at this as a money issue, but its very possible the Fins just don't want Wheeler because of his rumored poor work ethic (aka "complacency"). If Wheeler isn't a good fit with our players and in the locker room, then just cut him even if we take a hit. Save a roster spot and get more cohesion from or LB group.

No one is dumb enough to trade for either of them with those contracts and horrible 2013 seasons. Not sure why you want to give both another chance? Neither showed any awareness, instincts, leadership etc. We can make all the excuses we want for them, new team, new defense, injury, whatever but it may very well be that they're just not very good. Both got paid by a moron based on a small sample of positive play the year before.

Unfortunately you'll probably get your way and they'll get another year to prove me right because no one is taking on those contracts for nothing let alone trading a pick for them

probably be a smart idea to draft a lb this year neither of these guys is going to be a factor for us in my opinion.

A trading team can re-structure the deals, and the players only have $5-6M guaranteed which can be switched to a new signing bonus.

So you're suggesting a team may trade an asset for one of them and their horrible contracts and the restructure their contract, converting money into a bonus which is guaranteed making their already bad contract even worse? Ask Jerry Jones how constant restructuring of contracts is working out for him?! I think some confuse restructuring of contracts with pay cuts

In a trade the signing bonus stays on Miami, and neither player will have one. Giving them one is an option, as almost all players have them to soften cap hits. Their contracts are average and below, not horrible, with $6M for Ellerbe and $8M for 2 years on Wheeler for a trading team.

How could we trade either of them on those massive contracts? Ellerbe wasn't as bad as many suggested, but Ireland appears to have significantly overpaid for them.

In reality the only things we would be trading is the guaranteed money of $5M on Wheeler and $6M on Ellerbe. Past that would be p to the trading team.

All I'm doing here is showing a possible option if Hickey really wants to get new LB's, and not taking the cap hits which we cannot afford to do, and we were not the only team interested in both players last year.
