Travis Daniels losing confidence?

Would you rather build up false confidence in Daniels only to have him shredded when he faces another team? If he's going to get burned let it be in practice. He should respond by working harder to learn his position so that he doesnt get burned so much. If he responds by losing confidence in himself and giving up then he would never have made it in the NFL anyway.

Yes, I would rather build confidence in him even if it is somewhat false confidence. Confidence makes a corner better. His reactions are quicker, he doesn't question his instincts. By giving him that "false confidence" while simultaneously schooling his mistakes and teaching him technique, you are making him a better player. Take away his confidence and you can school him on his mistakes and teach him all the technique in the world he'll still go out there and get burned.
 
Of course Daniels is gonna get beat, he is a rookie. The game is much faster then in college. You just got to give him time to adjust to the NFL and he will be better as the season goes.

Exactly, and also DBs are very ****y, I played CB and safety in High School, and when I was playing Corner, I always hoped they would try to take me deep (for a white boy I had some speed :D ), and at times I would be beaten, but all that would do is make me hope that they would try that again. He will be fine, and I am sure in games he will gain confidence, not lose it.
 
Booker has always been a quiet receiver. He's probably not going to be our deep threat, but he'll catch plenty of passes.
 
IMO Corner is the hardest position to play. I doubt it is a matter of confidence as much as it is he's just getting used to going up against high talent levels all the time. Obviously, it will take some time before he can consistently keep them in check.

If his confidence is so weak that it could be shattered just because as a rookie he gets beat by NFL vets a few times then he will never make it in the NFL. Don't pick on him any more than the other CB's, but don't coddle him either. Explain to him (if he's too dumb to figure it out on his own) that all CBs get beat sometimes and that he's only going to get better.

Also, its easier to school his mistakes and teach him technique if you show him the film and say "Ok, here is what you did wrong and why the receiver burned you" If you lighten up on him in practice he wont get beat and wont have the same incentive to improve.

One last point....Daniels isnt the only one this all affects. The receivers and QBs have a stake in these practices too. If any of them have to limit their play to make Daniels feel more comfortable then you are slowing their development. Should Davis have slowed down to allow Daniels to catch up, hurting his own chances of making the team? Should Feeley have thrown to a better covered receiver and passed up an easy completion, hurting his chances in his battle for the starting QB job?

Treat Daniels like any other rookie on the team. Teach him. Encourage him. But if you have to handle him with kid gloves and hold back your other players, then perhaps he was never intended for the NFL to start with.

I agree with that. He needs to develop the thick skin.
 
I believe Travis is just having some growing pains, hes probably not getting the right step on receivers when they go for deep bombs, he may be waiting to long to turn around, and for all you know he may be so bothered by being beat so much that hes not following the basics. It takes time but if Saban thinks he has what it takes well ill take his word over any analyst anyday. Anyways Saban coached him and im sure he will be a pretty good Cornerback. I can guarantee this, hes gonna be 200 times better than Jamar "Can't Play Cornerback for ****" Fletcher.....
 
There are very few CB's in the NFL that can defend a perfectly run deep ball. I'm fine to hear him get beat with the deep ball as long as he isnt getting beat badly on 15 to 20 yard passing plays. Not to mention he is getting some great pratice in going against Chambers he wont be facing the #1 reciever often on the team.
