Trent Edwards turned down Dolphins

Sad commentary when a worthless slug like Edwards turns the franchise down outright.

However, that said, I'd rather take a look at any potential upside of Pat Devlin than waste a singe snap on a certified loser such as Edwards. So even for a negative reason, on this one, "alls well that ends well."

Haha, it's not sad that these bum QBs are declining to play for us. Its smart by the FO to not go out and spend more than the veteran minimum on a back-up for your back-up.

I agree, the pile on Ross mentality is getting a bit old. Sure he made a mistake with the whole Harbaugh talks while Sparano was still employed. Other than that little mess, what exactly did he do to be judged so harshly?

Ross didn't hire Parcells, Ireland or Sparano. He wasn't the majority owner when Chad Henne was drafted. He let the football people do what they were hired to do and he concentrated on improving the stadium, the surrounding area and the overall game day experience for fans. He hasn't made one major decision yet that strongly impacts the football team. Deciding to keep the current head coach is not a major football decision. People shouldn't judge Ross yet until the see what he does when he has to make changes to the football sides of things. Who he hires as the next coach, what he decides to do with Ireland at the end of the year is where he should be judged. As for the stadium and surrounding area, you have to admit that he has really improved that aspect of the game.

He has been branded an idiot because he looked into improving the head coach position earlier this year and didn't pull the trigger. Ross is the second richest owner in the NFL, and you don't get to that point being a moron or not knowing what you are doing. Sure he made some rookie mistakes, but he will learn from that. People always say how Jerry Jones spends money and is wealthy, but keep in mind that Ross is worth TWICE what Jones is.

Let's wait to see Ross make some moves in regards to the football team itself before judging him. Everything here right now he inherited.

Being a rich NFL owner doesn't mean you know anything about how to run a football team either.

Jerry Jones is a football guy. He's a former player with a national championship ring and 3 superbowl rings. He understands football, but his ego gets the best of him sometimes.

Furthermore, Ross didn't decide not to pull the trigger on Harbaugh. He just flat out failed to land his man because coaches don't accept jobs that aren't vacant.

Ross did inherit this mess, and he deserves a chance to make his own hire before his legacy is written. However, and you can sig quote this one....

If he hires another flashy 'name' in an attempt to sell tickets like Jon Gruden or Bill Cowher, and gives him full control, it will blow up in his face.

It doesn't matter what QB comes in now, it's too late for them to understand our system, be cohesive with the existing players, and most importantly..win. we just need some insurance for Moore and a "Fill In" to get us through more painful games if he goes down.

Being a former player doesn't mean you know anything about how to run a football team either. Ross is learning on the job as a first time sports owner, and there have been bumps along the way, we know that. He will learn from his mistakes and will be a better NFL owner because of it, just like the business world he is used to.

Unless you were at the Harbaugh/Ross meeting, no one here really knows what went down, only speculation. It is LIKELY though that Harbaugh never wanted to leave the west coast which is probably why the 49ers were the only other NFL team he talked to. He also left the chance on the table to return to Stanford, ultimately he took the 49ers job. A job where he can live in the same house he lived in during his Stanford years. There is much more to the story than he "flat out failed to land his man". Remember that Ross was reportedly willing to make Harbaugh the highest paid NFL coach to lure him to Miami. More likely than not, family and personal reasons is why he stayed in California, not because of Ross or his money. Probably any owner not in California would have come home empty handed also. I don't know for sure since I wasn't there, but you don't know either.

So you agree with me that Ross inherited the current team and DESERVES a chance to prove himself by actually making a football hire.

Gruden or Cowher will likely be Ross' main target this upcoming coaching search. It will indeed be a "flashy name", someone who will sell tickets, create buzz, but also if you get a guy like Cowher, you get a guy with a very successful history and someone who brings credibility to the organization. Full control is always a dangerous move to make, but it doesn't mean these guys won't surround themselves with other good football minds to ease the burden.

My question to you GinnJr is who do you want as coach if not Cowher or Gruden(also assume you don't want Fisher because he would fall under the same category)? Rob Ryan? Yuck. Rob Chudzinski?

blessing in disguise if u ask me
just let devlin stay your #2 and activate
bring in another young qb for
development on ps

Most owners, not saying all, but most who have bought a franchise in the past 20 years have notbeen "football" people. They were usually super rich people who COULD buy a football franchise. I think people are venting and Ross becomes an easy target. Huizenga got the same treatment. Ireland is getting the Speilman treatment. And Sparano is getting the Wanny/Saban/Cameron treatment.

Ross deserves some stay of execution until he pulls the trigger on something. This offseason will determine what kind of owner he is. And as Nublar mentioned, he hasn't done anything on the football side.

Change is coming. Even if we fire Sparano during the season, the next coach won't be hired until the off-season. If Ireland gets fired, it likely won't be till after the season even if Sparano is canned in a few weeks.

I know everyone wants this garbage removed like.. yesterday... but this process just has to take it's due course.

Change is coming.

In reading your response, IF we get Cowher for example, you know he's going to want complete control.. and he's going to bring in his own people. Guess what Ross is going to do? Exactly what he has been doing. letting football people run the football side of operations, and focus on the stadium experience. So people wanting Ross to be more hands on will get more of the same. But hiring Cowher will definitely endear him to all, and make him look pretty smart.

Trent Edwards should be lucky he got a phone call.

Jeff Fisher is the top guy on my list. Cowher is fine too, but you can't give any of these guys full control. It's a mistake.

My advice would be for Ross to get off his a** and go find who the competent FOOTBALL people are that make up the infrastructure of winning organizations like the Packers, Ravens and Patriots, and build a winner off that model.

Hire a respected, and public relations savvy General Manager the way the Lions, Falcons, etc. have done with Martin Mayhew and Thomas Dimitroff, and let them hire the coach.

Make damn sure everyone involved is on the same page, and understands that we're going to build around a franchise quarterback. Get me that guy, and I'll have the pieces around him to compete for a championship in 3 years. As long as we have him, it doesn't matter how many times we have to 'retool' over the next decade due to expiring contracts, aging vets, etc... we'll remain competitive while we do it.

Any 3 year plan that isn't spearheaded by the most important position in football being the focal point needs to be nipped in the bud immediately. The same way that the triflops 'build from the lines out' blueprint should've been scrapped before any of them were allowed to sign their names on the dotted line.

Wow if thats true its a pretty sad indicator of our fo. delhome has worked with Daboll and must have bad memories of his offense lol.

If you worked with someone you didn't like. Would you go back and work there knowing that person is there. Even worse, would you even work for the worst team in the league?

It's a trend now....

Coordinators aren't exactly lining up to come to Miami either. Hell, you know it's bad when you have to hire the only guy who had a worse offense than the one you had to begin with.

Harbaugh saw what a mess this whole thing is.

Nobody is going to come work for Jeff Ireland. Ross is bad enough, but Ireland only doubles it.

they will be lining up to be the OC once we get luck lol

Maybe he came here and just wasnt feeling the vibe lol. On another note, whats all this about Sparano saying guys gave tremendous efforts lol?
