Tua Contract Details Discussion Thread

Feels an overly gloomy assessment

I wouldn’t call Calais Campbell a scrub.

We’ve also nicely improved at middle linebacker and corner.
calais campbell isnt really edge. i think he should be able to help some. didnt really mean to get into pros and cons of each, was more trying to make the larger point that when you lose really good players due to money, it is hard to replace them

We still on this?

Yoooo some of us SOBs are masochists continuing this Tua discussion.

It was in pure ol' fashion Miami Dolphins drama that it took as long as it did. Cuz we are clowns in the NFL like that.

What? Other? Logical? Choice? Was? There?

Contract details? Bro... couldn't care less.

Trying to find another QB in another 2 to 3 years or 2 to 3 weeks or 2 to 3 millennia... I don't have the will, the strength, the desire.

We locked ourselves a Tua & now defenses gonna have to HAWK TUA!

Then what is the purpose of your misguided response? - LOL

One question that the OP presented was the idea that we might now sign someone else with the cap space created by this signing.... and while I suppose this is theoretically possible, I doubt it for several reasons.

1) The front office keeps saying they are happy with what we've got. I believe them.
2) I'm not sure there's anyone worthwhile left. Most of what's left is more name than current game.
3) ...and most importantly, any unspent money rolls over to next year when we'll actually need it.

I'll be both surprised and honestly, pissed off if we sign anyone this late in the process... UNLESS it's for chump change.
Congratulations, you lose. - LOL

I am not sure this is right. We will find out this year if we added quality players. Here are some thoughts:
-Not optimistic about the new center. Terrible pass blocker, and pass blocking is the most important thing for Tua
-Wilkins and Rob Hunt were not replaced. Almost nothing in the way of replacement for Hunt, and alot of scrubs to fill in for Wilkins
-Somewhat optimistic about Poyer, but can he stay healthy?
-Didnt have the money to add anyone truly good at edge while we wait on Chubb and Phillips
-Jonnu Smith might be pretty good for us and have a nice role

Anyway I could go on and on....my point was we really dont know yet, but I personally am skeptical about some of the offseason moves. When you lose high quality players due to cap issues, and then go bargain shopping, you tend to not do as well as what you had. You tend to get what you pay for. There is no free lunch. More money for 1 player is less for others. When in this boat, it is not an easy problem to solve for
Good post! I cant reply rn but I will later on... there's a good discussion to be had here imo.

Its actually just opinions on what will happen this upcoming season as far as player and coaching performance.

thanks i didnt mean to get us off topic on each specific offseason move. was just trying to make a general point that when you lose good players due to money (horses), it is hard to replace them with ponies. even if execute well in this situation, you will tend to be worse off. bigger picture point, when it comes to players like tua and anyone else, it is best for the team if they are retained for the least amount of money and most protection as possible. i think the dolphins did ok in this regard w/respect to where they ended up with tua. having said that, there are still consequences to his deal going forward, as @Feverdream pointed out. tua's deal will result in other players not being here at some point in the future. either we lose guys on the roster, or don't add certain players

The problem with this way of thinking is that it ignores the fact that teams who are not over the cap will gain even more space, and while we watch all of our gained space be instantly absorbed, the other teams use their newfound space to sign Hunt, Wilkins, and others.

It's like spending your paycheck before you've earned it.

Yes, we are way over the cap next year, and yes, we will incur more losses.

I said the same thing last year and received the same denials that you just made.

I mean they aren’t really denials and our team got better than it was last year. They got a ton of deals and high level stop gap players for well below their market value.

Yes dline took a little blow and so did oline however safety and corner both got solid upgrades, linebackers much improved, wide receiver 3 took a major upgrade as did tight end.

You may of predicted a tough time however the team improved. Honestly with the addition of campbell atleast for the year not even sure dline took a hit at all.

We are in better shape then we were this offseason and as I explained I think we improved as a team.
