Tua vs. Stafford

Oddly enough Flacco won a Super Bowl with a MVP award, very similar stats to Stafford.

I must be dense, and have completely missed your point. Are you saying Tua is better than both those guys?
I'm saying taking a 4 game sample size and using it to proclaim who is a better QB or what someone's ceiling can be may be a little short-sighted especially when those two QBs have 1 Pro Bowl between them in 27 years.

Let's stop pretending like the gap between Flacco/Stafford and Tua is large enough to where the statement that "Tua on the Rams wouldn't have made the playoffs" is anything more than just plain ridiculous.

If Matt Stafford can win a super bowl I don’t see why Tua cannot. Mediocre QB play can get it done, and Tua is still ascending. You don’t need Mahomes or Rogers back there to get it done.

The Dolphins will need to build a strong team around him to do so. Keep building the offensive line, and strengthen our skill positions. We’re closer than most believe.

Happy offseason,
Haven't gone through the thread yet, but Stafford is not a "mediocre" QB. I'm not going to hang the "elite" tag on him, but I would say borderline. He has never gotten the recognition he deserved due to playing for that clown show known as the Lions.

The comp is ludicrous, IMO.

huh? i dont think those two have one thing in common in regards to how they play the position.

He's a clear top 10 QB, but he's not borderline elite. There's a gigantic gulf between guys like Stafford and guys like Rodgers and there's no gray area in-between.

I am of the opinion that had he played on better teams, he would be seen much differently. Maybe you are right about even borderline, but that term has no real definition. I'll yeild, and rephrase. He is consistently top third of the league, minimum, over the entirety of his career.

I like how everyone is saying the Lions suck and have held back Stafford like we're not the Lions of the AFC. Actually we might be worse they've made the playoffs 3 times the last 10 years and we've only made it once.
The two are not mutually exclusive brother.

Stafford’s SB stats: 26/40 for 283 yards 3 TDs and 2 INTs and 89 passer rating. I’d call that a mediocre performance in today’s NFL, and think Tua could do much better
When has Tua had stats like those consistently?

The Lions have a contingent of the fan base that thinks Stafford needed to be replaced because he's been holding them back, same as our genius collective that thinks upgrading the QB will make the line and weapons better all of a sudden. Just need to draft our Peyton Manning, obviously.

It's asinine.

In my opinion he's a better QB than say....Matt Ryan, Derek Carr, Tannehill.

He's almost in his own category to me, right below the elite elite QB but above the guys I mentioned. .

I know that and you know that but I'm pretty sure to some this is not a team that's holding back players. To some certain players are holding the team back, even though we've been mediocre going on 20 years now.

At one point, Stafford had the highest cap hit of any player in the league and many Lions fans were upset that they were handcuffed by his contract and couldn't bring in other skill players to compliment him. The team granted him his wish to be traded but yet they forced Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson into retirement because they wouldn't do the same for either of them. The Lions even demanded that Calvin Johnson repay some of his bonus money, causing a rift with one of their hall of fame players.

Prior to coming to LA if you asked people to rank QB's based on tier's Matthew Stafford would have been placed in the same tier as Derek Carr. The general consensus of the board didn't think too highly of Stafford but now that he's on a better team and won a SB the last 12 years in Detroit doesn't count.

Not speaking directly to you Ghost but I bet everyone praising him now and blaming Detroit for holding him back has no receipts prior to this year stating that they thought highly of Stafford. Show me the receipts people! We all know they don't exist.
