Ty Law Update

I'm not saying that we (or any other team) should give him what he's asking for......but even with health concerns, he's worth way more than the vet minimum, and will get more than that.

I just couldn't believe that someone would consider him "stingy" for not jumping at the absolute least amount of money that he could possibly sign for....then again, condidering the source.......

Most likely if we were to sign him it would be at the vet. minium with incentives, so in actuality it will be worth more.

Dolphins | Law Offered a Contract - from KFFL
Thu, 9 Jun 2005 07:08:05 -0700

Jason Cole, of the Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins have a one-year, minimum salary contract offer on the table to free agent CB Ty Law (Patriots). Based on previous reports, Law is seeking a more lucrative contract.

a top 5 CB (and SHOULD HAVE BEEN 2 time SB MVP), signing for the VET minimum. what a joke.

What other offers are out there for him right now though? I mean, if he found a contract that he felt was worth it, he'd have taken it by now. No one is going to offer him anything over the top as long as he's injured. Who knows, I doubt it, but who's to say he won't go ahead and sign the one year deal with us, knowing that Poole will be back next year, if he can get healthy and show the rest of the Teams he's back to where he used to be, then he could be serviceable for us this year, gain some contract leverage, and go F/A again next year while we get Poole back.. It's a win win situation for both sides.. but, I don't think he's thinking about it that way and he feels and rightfully so that someone will eventually pay big money for him if they're desperate enough..

If he ends up signing a contract for the minimum, I believe he might go back to NE. (If they want him, that is)

He should come play for us for the minimum for one season...have a great year...then go make his millions elsewhere after the season is over...:)

There are reasons for him to take this offer, reasons that would make the offer better than a more lucrative one from a different team. I'm guessing, however, that if he wants to take a minimum deal, he'd take New England (and they'd be crazy not to offer the minimum for him).

For Miami?

First, he lives in the area. Second, he's injured, and he's NOT going to get the big money deal he really wants, so in all likelihood he may be fielding three year offers worth a total of like $7 or $8 million, MAYBE $10-12 million if they are backloaded deals with a lot of incentives and whatnot. That would be worst than a one year deal, even for the veteran's minimum. In that kind of deal, the team decides when he becomes a free agent again. With a one year deal, he decides. He gets to roll the dice, take the one year deal, try and stay healthy, show off his skills, and then receive the pay day at the end of the road (which would be significant if he stayed injury-free and showed that his injury didn't affect his skills). If he accepted a backloaded $12 million dollar three year deal, the team would only let him go when they feel he's washed up, and when they do, everyone will know he's washed up and won't give him big money. Why? Because he's just been dissed by his own team, cut, so everyone knows.

In Miami, under basically the same system as Belichick, Law would know he'd have a chance to prove to the league he still has it.

If I were Law, I'd start negotiating with teams and try to get one to offer him over $1 million on a one year deal. If nobody does, I'd try and retreat to the Patriots, or take the Phins' offer.

You left off the information about his injuries.... that might make a difference.

You can play the injury card all you want, but there is no way in hell he is going to take a contract for the league min nor should he. That is truely a slap in his face. CB is one of the highest payed positions on the field. And come on someone is argueing that he should sign it because he already has enough money. Come on, sounds great but show me anyone that actually thinks that way. You might as well be saying that Wayne should eat the 8.6 million Ricky owes because hell he doesn't need the money.

Until he can prove he's 100% healthy then that's the only offer he's going to get from ANY team in the NFL. It's not about playing the injury card.

Of course it is, now this is totally speculation but im sure Ty Law has been offered a contract bigger than vet min. The problem is that the length of the contract is not meeting his requirements. Someone out there that desperately needs a corner would sign him for 1 year at least for 1 million. In my opinion that is a far lesser gamble than the boston gamble.

That's your opinion. You do realize that Law can't make any cuts yet. Boston is already on the field running. Right now, Boston is not a bigger gamble. There's a reason Law is still available and that reason is he's injured. It has nothing to do with contract requirements.

I think we should offer him a 2 year 2 million dollar deal with the second year an option for him.

There's no way that Ty Law would take a ONE YEAR league MIN contract, this is Ty Law. I guess it's good that we're trying to acquire him, but it really just might be a waste of time. The guy's looking to be overpaid and when he's FULLY healthy, you know someone's going to give in.

He will never sign for cheap. His ego wont let him. Face it, in his mind he is still one of the top corners in the game. He will look at what, say Champ Bailey makes, and say "What a chump. I could kick his *** on the field. He gets that money, I better get that + some cash. I am the man."

Sadly, this is the attitude that will work for him. Some team will be desperate and ante up the cash too. Sure hope it ain't us.
