UM recruiting

AMAZING class considering the living hell of a season and coaching change we went through. I was definitely not expecting a near-top 10 class at the end of the season that's for sure.

Early lists have Miami at 22nd

They're not counting Kayne Farquharson or Chris Perry. Chris sent in his LOI wrong, he just needs to redo it. His situation could be resolved as early as today. Kayne signed his LOI in December and he just needs to take a couple of classes at Miami Dade to get in. He'll enroll in the summer.

I think UM did great considering the situation they were in with a coaching change and such. The real shocker was FSU who needed two players real late just to make it in the top 40 classes. wow

Miami is #9, I'm not sure what Motion means by us being #22

9. Miami
The Hurricanes got off to a good start with their 2007 class, landing players like the nation's No. 2-rated guard, Harland Gunn (Omaha, Neb./Central). Things came to a screeching halt, however, as head coach Larry Coker battled through bad press and eventually was fired. Miami lost some prospects, but since the hiring of Randy Shannon has been making up for lost time. The Canes lured QB Robert Marve (Tampa Bay, Fla./Plant), who was named Mr. Football in the state of Florida, away from Alabama. Shannon really showed an ability to close, landing one of the premier defensive prospects in Allen Bailey (Darien, Ga./ McIntosh Academy). When Shannon was hired, he quickly worked to re-establish roots in South Florida by landing versatile and athletic defender Adewale Ojomo (Hialeah, Fla.). Miami has had several big and quick defensive tackles over the years and secured another one recently. One-time Miami commit Chris Perry (Keller, Texas/Fossil Ridge) de-committed and switched to Nebraska, only to recently decide to re-commit to the Hurricanes. On signing day, Shannon was able to land RB Lee Chambers (Coffeeville, Miss./Coffeeville) to increase the speed in Miami's backfield.

The Canes were regarded in the late-teens/early-20s coming into signing day, but Randy Shannon closed deals like he was Mariano Rivera, Gordon Gekko and Alec Baldwin's character from Glengarry Glen Ross all rolled into one.

PHENOMENAL job by Shannon to get the Canes into the top 10. Hell, I was happy with the #16 ranking the Canes had from ESPN at the start of the day.

alright, we have a great 1-2 combo at RB now with Jarvious James and Lee Chambers. we will make some serious noise with those 2. and Allen Bailey is going to be a star

espn is the only site not having the gators at #1 in recruiting this season. also, they have the canes alot higher than the other two major sites (rivals and scout) i trust the word of the specialist. still a good class for UM despite the problems theys started with.

The discrepancy is largely in the quality/quantity debate. The more emphasis a ranking service placed on quality, the higher the Canes scored. If you sort the Rivals.com list by average star ranking, the Canes were 11th. But the fact that they landed 17 recruits, where most other top 25 schools were in the mid-20s, knocked them down some spots with the ranking services that put more emphasis on quantity.

Similarly, ESPN had USC ranked #1 with their small, but star-studded class. Other services put Florida #1 with a larger class that had a bit less quality, but more depth.
