Untold story of Dolphins second team offensive line

John Jerry, Lydon Murtha and Nate Garner will all be targets for the NYJ roster after they are cut from Miami. Tony Sparano will be all over them like white on rice. I'm surprised by Garner and Murtha, I was always hopeful they would somehow regain some of the promise they once had and make a solid push to gain a starting or backup position along the O-Line.

yeah i think the jets would be on them...maybe not murtha cause i don't know that he's a fit for what they want to do...the power downhill running game...that said before i say miami should let garner or jerry go i want to see what these other potential backup options have to offer in the preseason...have to think steinbach right now is in line for a job so that means 6 guys barring injury are pretty much locked in...we still need a swing backup tackle murtha fits that bill if he's healthy and we need another backup interior player that can probably play some right tackle in a pinch...

This is shaping up to be a very interesting camp. The way Philbin has allowed the O-Line to play together without the constant switching like Sparano did, is a breath of fresh air. Philbin just quietly goes about his business and has his fingers on the pulse of the team. Sparano seemed lost even with his supposed O-Line expertise!!!

Just think about it we could of drafted Jimmy Graham instead of John Jerry in the 3rd round that year. So glad Tony and his mentor Bill are gone. They really know talent!!!!

Everytime I hear or have to use the name John Jerry it feels like getting dead square kicked in the nuts because of the beast Jimmy Graham has become.

Good post. Ive read about some of the moves but really never thought about it. Its a transition to the zone scheme blocking. Guys like Long and Pouncey are good enough in all systems. Incognito also is pretty good and I believe can make transition...we will see. Looks like our depth may be different names this year. Im also curios to how many we carry. We have some versatility which may allow us to carry less than normal. That will allows us to carry more at like say...WR, RB, and/or TE.

John Jerry isn't in the mix at all for a starting spot on the offensive line. In fact, I suspect it won't be long before he disappears from the roster unless he gets his act together (then again, I said that last year). Jerry showed up to camp at 345 pounds, which is about 25 pounds heavier than his target weight. While he passed his conditioning test, Jerry moves like a snail at practice. That doesn't work in a zone blocking scheme that requires athleticism. I have a hard time believing it wouldn't be better for him to move to tackle.

I don't know if to cry about this cause we passed on Jimmy Graham for this hog or be happy cause he likely will be gone soon.

It's a shame about John Jerry and his weight issues, after all, he did play pretty well last season after Long went down with his injury. Those last few games where Jerry started and mauled people, left me with higher hopes for him in 2012. Some guys just don't get the message and Jerry looks to have some cotton in his ears and plenty of food on his plate. Good riddance!!!

We all have heard how Olineman were asked to drop weight to better their mobility & athleticism for the Dolphins new zone blocking scheme. Well NFL.com has the players wei0ght when they reported to camp & wait to you see the guys who actually lost weight & k&ept themselves in shap the ones who gained or did not lose anything. I really don't want to pat myself in the back but it is incredible how those who actually kept themselves in shape or lost weight have a place with First & Second team now & those who did not are with the 3rd team. How Jerry remains with the 2nd team is beyond me, but I would not be surprised if eventually he is replaced or cut

Winners:
Ray Feinga 320 (337) Richie Incognito 319 (324), Artis Hicks 312 (324), Steinbach 295, Martin 312, Pouncey 303, Samuda 315, Long 319, McDonald 310. Newly added Chandler Burden came in at 313.

Losers: Jerry 345 (328), Murtha 330 (315), Garner 325, Cook 325,

Samuda looked really good in his video prior to the draft (game and workout). He appears to have the skills Philbin is looking for for zone blocking. Speed and power combo.
