Vanderjagt - Conspiracy Theory - indebt to Mafia?

I know a lot of people will think I'm nuts. I'm cool with that. There is no way Vanderjagt, a multiple time pro bowl kicker, and thought to be by many, one of the best kickers ever misses a kick in that way. Vanderjagt just is too good to shank it 20 - 30 feet to the right like that. He's just too good. He must owe someone some money or something.

To me, the only excuse I would accept is that he thought they were going to call time out to ice him. Otherwise, he was paid to dump the game. He's just too good to miss like that in that situation.

Bash away!

I heard a rumor that Kordell Stewart was really a great quarterback and just made a lot of money point shaving his entire career.

Sound silly? So did your post.

Are you nuts? Seriously though I highly doubt that he missed the kick on purpose for whatever reason. There is a thing called PRESSURE and some professionals don't handle it as well as others. He just choked end of story. Btw wasn't it a 46 yarder he attempted ? that's no chip shot.JMHO

46 yarder in a dome to a multiple pro-bowl kicker? Shoulda been cake or just short. Not half a zip code to the right.

So ignore it then. I think theres a lot more going on in the NFL than we think. A lot of these guys are short on money. A botched kick here, a half hearted paas defense there, a missed tackle here. Somehow the 52 players on these 32 teams all have Captain America type integrity? Yeah ok.

I would have believed it if you said the Refs must have had money on the game but not the Kicker. I mean come on they shouldnt have even been in that position if the refs didnt try to hand them the game with bad calls plus non calls. That may have been the worst officiated game ever. All though it did win me lots of money

:sidelol: ......Vanderjerk is the most overrated kicker of all time!!! Dome kickers are worthless!!

I think someone has been watching their playmakers dvd again...

I doubt, very seriously, that Vanderjagt blew the game on purpose. Kickers have missed like that before you know. Heck, John Kasay doinked an extra point a few hours later. Was he trying to blow the game?

Besides, the whole theory doesn't make sense. The kicker is a reliant position. Meaning, it relis on situation to present itself, in order to have an impact. Had they not been in field goal range, or Peyton drives down the field for a TD, how does Vanderjagt prevent it? It would make more sense if you said a QB, or RB or someone who was involved in the actual offense/defense side of things was trying to control things. A kicker just doesn't make a lick of sense. Remember, he made his other field goal. If he was shaving points, he probably would have used that opportunity to do so, not knowing if he would have another.

Vanderjacht owed money to Art Schlicter.

Seriously, his face turned quite pale after he missed the kick and you could tell he was feeling like the Bill's kicker who choked in the Superbowl.....pressure is hard to deal with.

It's an extremely slippery slope to take the idea that there are some players that could be potentially dishonest to the level of accusing one of purposefully "tanking" a play.

My problem with the silly conspiracy theories is this--they're based on ridiculous foundations, and extreme stretches of the imagination, and seem to ignore other more obvious (and logical) explanations for things.

Until I hear a convincing argument about somebody "tanking" a game, I'll yawn.

Besides, you obviously wanted people who disagreed with you to post in this thread, as you put the flamewar bait out there and begged for responses.

this isnt the first time, remember in the playoffs against us he missed in ot, setting up lamar smiths heroic defender draggint td run..
