Very Mediocre Draft

I know am 95% certain Hickey picked up the phone and talked to the Saints.. It's common sense when the saint's made the deal with Zona @ #20 you don't think they called Hickey for #19? Come on man! Hickey got cold feet and was scared he would lose out on Philbins RT.. He should of made the deal with Saints and pick up a 3rd and still get James... Guy left his cards on the table.. Rookie mistake.. it's all water under the bridge at this point.. Lets hope James starts day one..

How certain are you that the Cardinals(20) or Chiefs(23) wouldn't have drafted him if he were available? How certain are you that the Seahawks(32), Redskins(33) or the Browns(34), who all drafted an OT in the 2nd round don't move up a few slots ahead of 27 to grab him?

There were plenty of Fatboy's in this draft.." No risk, No reward" Teams are going move but you can't let one player dictate your draft. Tom Brady was 6th rounder and that was a skilled position.. IT was a deep draft for OT/RT, PLus for me I would never waste my top 2 draft pick on a Offensive lineman..Especially in this draft. It's cool, you like hickey's moves and I don't.. I go Defense or skilled weapons on offense with my first 2 picks

Now you're not so sure he would have been there 27... Got it

you're right, I don't know.. I do know this though, we would of scored another 3rd round pick..
I don't doubt the Saints offered the deal and another 3rd would have been nice, but Hickey saw James as the last 1st round tackle and didn't want to risk losing him. Like someone mentioned earlier, if James is the RT for the next decade, no one will care about or remember the possible trade with New Orleans

Xavier Su'a-Filo, , Joel Bitonio, Cyrus Kouandjio,, Jack Mewhort, , Justin Britt..Etc All starters. That extra 3rd would of been worth the risk don't you think?
Could of been a hall of famer..

Just depends on who Philbin and Lazor along with Hickey thought was the best fit for the team. I personally think KC would have snatched him up if left there. They lost 3 offensive linemen and another 1st round tackle was talked about up here quite abit.

Hickey and company have a problem to fix. Unlike Ireland last year, I believe this GM is listening to his coach and their scouts. All those other names listed, don't matter. It didn't matter to them.

Jawuan James OT TENN
I like the player, but I hate how he was acquired. We could have trade down to 27 or maybe even 30 and picked up an extra 3rd. I do not think that anyone had a 1st rd grade on him and not trading down into the bottom of the 1st and acquiring more picks when there were trading partners was not smart. I also think he was taken too high, but they really liked him and he is a good player that hold down the RT spot. Like I said, I like the player.

Jarvis Landry WR LSU
I might have a higher opinon of Jarvis than alot of people, but I love this pick. I think he plays faster than the 40 he put up at the combine and he is ultra tough. I think that he could unseat Hartline as our go to guy.

Billy Turner OT NDST
I also think Turner is a great pick. He can play T or G and he has that nasty streak you look for in OL. Rd 3 was right where I thought he would go.

Walt Aikens CB LIB
I had to scratch my head when they picked Aikens in the 4th. One-I think that was too high for him to be coming off the board and Two-have we given up on Jamar Taylor and Will Davis.

Arthur Lynch TE UGA
I think the best way to describe Lynch is to say he compares to Anthony Fasano. He was picked where I thought he would get picked. Good pick-up.

Jordan Tripp OLB MT
Tripp is another player I really like. He can play sideline-to-sideline, he is always around the ball, and I think he is a great fit for 4-3.

The last two, I will admit I am not familiar with them. I also think there were better options available, but it is the 6th and 7th rds, so you can not really criticize the pick.

Spot on!

Earl Thomas vs Odrick and Misi, both starters. Was that a good risk?

When you look at our draft picks on paper, I agree that it looks average. What you have to consider is how these guys fit in to the team that drafted them. When you factor in scheme and need, I think its fair to say that the players we drafted will have the greatest impact on our team because they fit our scheme, and basically strengthen our weakest link.

If your point is that being a team captain is no guarantee someone will be a positive influence in the locker room, I don't disagree, but I think it probably increases the chances. Further, I wouldn't be surprized if Hickey made some calls to the coaches of these kids to ask about their character. Ireland clearly wasn't concerned with the issue. The fact that Hickey wants to build better locker room leadership early in his tenure is, imo, good for us in the long run.
Lets start and see if they can play at the nfl level, because if not, they will be leading nothing.
