Well, in Hawthorne's case it might.
His failed test came at the combine....where he KNEW he would be tested. You have to question the guys mental toughness for not being able to resist the temptation even though it was almost assured that the decision would adversely affect his career. Or, you have to question his basic mental ABILITY for not being able to understand the risk he was taking.

I mean, Feeley will still get his shot and Feeley may end up being the QB, but right now it's Frerottes job to lose.

I really don't care who starts for us, so long as they do the job. What I don't want is to see flip flopping back and forth and people moving all over the place on the depth chart in the middle of the season.

He might not give the reps based on what the fans want, but he may give the reps to show the players on the team that GUS is better. As soon as they believe that the competition will be over and AJ wil be the backup.

It's preseason fella. Our team is still loaded with alot of guys who are gonna get cut, probably the guys Saban is raising the red flag on...they are being put on notice...get your **** together or I'll send you packing...this is a perfect opportunity, and one well taken, to see what your guys are made of. I LOVE it. Once the season starts, I'm inclined to believe you'll see a more unanimous disposition on the team.

Different kind of mental toughness. Well I would say one is judgement and work on the field is toughness.

Also again, Hawthorne was slated at one point to being a top 10 pick. Vickerson was never slated to be in the top 10 of the third round. Totally different situations.

Also you can say this, Vickerson is a project. Hawthorne is a risk.
 
Sounds like Nick Saban is just 'messing' with the media and trying to single out players that are 'underperforming' at camp. I really can't believe Nick would take the 'Brook Trout' look as gospel in evaluating players! Maybe it's more of a movitational tool out of his arsenal for Nick in 'deconstructing' the Dolphins team and then rebuilding the team according to his football blueprint and coaching vision.

A lot of players pride themselves in their professionalism in how they play on and off the field, going at it businesslike. A lot of players are analytical and will use their guile, knowledge and experience to gain an edge in their football battles. A lot of players also play with emotion and use that as fuel on and off the field, too! Evaluating all sorts of football players by their eyes sounds kinda offbeat to me, and may lead to haphazard results. I guess if anyone could do it effectively, why not Nick? He may be onto something there. Or not... :)
