Volian: Phins might make move for mario williams, robert mathis, avril

Christ, the move to the 4-3 really just opens up big holes short term and I don't see the long term benefits at all. This sucks. As if we didn't have enough to go after before all this ****, now we need 2 linemen and a linebacker.

Needs is a 3-4: NT, OLB, Safety
Needs in a 4-3: DE, MLB, Safety

If we stay in the 3-4 we can just read sign Solai and the need at OLB is still a hole but it isn't nearly as pressing. In the 4-3 now we desperately need an OLB as well as depth at LB with smaller/ quicker players, we would need depth with smaller/quicker Dts, and we would have a hole at DE on the other side of Wake, as Misi still sucks.

It's not just starters you need for the switch to the 4-3, it's depth. We wouldn't have any depth at DE or LB (all three spots).

william and wake would scare brady. We need that duo if we cant secure franchise qb.

This is true, and I'm not saying we will have the same success... But, New England began their transition this year, and they're in the Superbowl

sorry, i cant picture a defense with sean smith and yeremiah bell on it.

i wont even go in to how bad smith is and bell makes a HUGE hit every 3-4 games and thats his claim to fame.

it is IMPERATIVE that we upgrade those two positions right there.

now that the pathetic TODD BOWLES is gone, maybe we will see jimmie wilsons talent come through and vontaes game get to the level it SHOULD be by now. all it will take is the right db coach.

but we also have to either draft and or sign f/a's in both a corner and safety. our depth is AWFUL and two starters need replaced.

ultimately, expect the dolphins to make a big move at defensive end this offseason, whether it’s drafting someone like unc’s quinton coples with the eighth/ninth pick in the draft or signing a top free agent, which may include premier pass rushers like houston’s mario williams, detroit’s cliff avril and indianapolis’ robert mathis.

williams will be unrestricted if the texans are unable to re-sign him. Williams’ original six-year, $54 million contract expires in march. The texans aren’t likely to franchise him because he would cost them $22.9 million. He made $18 million this season.
The texans can’t afford to carry williams at $22.9 million for one year. They can’t trade him because you can’t trade a player who’s not under contract.
They could franchise him and hope he’d agree later to a long-term deal, but he’d be holding all the cards knowing they couldn’t keep him at $22.9 million.
Williams wants to stay, but once he’s on the open market, a team with a lot of cap space and an owner willing to spend millions might offer agent ben dogra $40 million to $50 million for him.
But before we count williams as gone, remember that smith, coach gary kubiak and owner bob mcnair have said they want to re-sign him. But they have only so much they can offer.

edited: Langer's line up

de- o'drick + rookie (jt replacement)
dt- solai(franchise tag)
dt-randy starks
de-cam wake

olb-kevin burnett
mlb-burflict(rookie)
olb-dansby

cb-vontae davis
fs-smith
ss-yeremiah bell
cb- clarborne (rookie)

mario williams...too expensive. I also have concerns bout the dline interior...i would resign solai and draft a quick hybrid rookie to replace jt. We need speed on the edges.
I also would rather have burflict at mlb and keep dansdy and burnett at olb.
and i would draft clarbourne at #9

**** ye

Couple of questions, First, I don't like moving to a 4-3, for the various reasons people have pointed out. Having said that, would Cam Wake be big/strong enough to play a 4-3 end? & Would Burnett work at Wolb?

Mario Williams would be an awesome pickup, but we've got about as much chance at signing him as we did with Nnamdi Asomugha.

Mario Williams is going to get "best defensive player" in the league type of money. So he's going to bank and become one of the top paid players in the NFL.
