Wake needs a new move.

HOLDING:

i will never be tagged on the board as a blind homer for sure and i HATE excuses for no points and missed plays and poor performances. but that rookie, solder, he got away with MASSIVE holding ALL NIGHT LONG on wake. he was called one time. that first pancake he gave wake that the anouncers went all ga-ga over, solder had a nice big handfull of jersey as soon as wake turned the corner, then wrapped his arms around him from the back and rode him all the way to the ground. i am suprised wake didnt have to change jerseys 3 or 4 times during that game!!

i guess the finz are not using cheap, chinese knock off jerseys. [good for them, no one should!!]

He definitely was held all night, but Solder did well still.

But like I said, Wake is the LAST person that deserves any blame on this defense. Bell, Dansby, Burnett, Misi, Davis, Smith, Sapp, Carroll, Jones all got handled and the DLine lost the battle in the trenches.

Wake gave a supreme effort compared to everybody else, it isn't fair to call him out.

I've got news for some of you. You can grab a guy as long as you're not outside of his chest area. Lineman are taught to try and grab the defender right under the shoulder pads where it comes over the chest. If you've ever worn them, you know were I'm talking about. That's textbook technique and what every lineman is taught. For the most part Solder had him exactly where he should have (pinned by the pads) and was rag dolling him. It's holding when your arms are beyond that chest area and it's why holding is often called when the lineman reaches out for a blocker that gets by them or, as you said, has a arm around them. You can grab a guy by the numbers on his jersey all day as long as you keep him controlled like that...it's legal.

Don't think anyone is calling him out (I wasn't) ^^. Point still stands though he needs a new move. Pull a Freeney, bull rush, something. You can't just do the dip low and turn the corner move all game. People just put their weight on you and you're down, or just step up inside the pocket because a lot of times you'll see him run past, and then have to come back to get him. It seemed like Solder was tackling Wake though half the night.

I saw Wake Bull rush a few times last night . . . I'm not saying he can't improve . . . but he played better than what may be perceived.

It's easy to blame the refs. It's more difficult to face the reality that the guy outplayed Wake. Even if he was holding and getting away with it, that's even more impressive that he was able to keep the refs from seeing it. I'll take a tackle that holds and doesn't get called for it over a pass rushing player who can't get out of a hold. And please, let's not start with the "NFL doesn't call anything on the Patriots"...

Wake will bounce back. He just needs to evaluate what he did wrong this game and correct it.

that is the dumbest thing i have heard in a while how do you get out of a choke hold when you come around the edge?

Thank you for your clinic on proper technique, now if you're so knowledgable maybe you should apply for an offensive line coaching position on the team seeing as though half of our offensive line is clueless and needs your help. C'mon man, let's be honest here, yes he had a good game and yes he was holding on many occassions

I was at the game row 4 behind the Pats bench and he was held a lot , actually I'd call it more like tackling.

In fact one time he was actually horse collared from behind without a call!

I played oline in college so I do know what holding is compared to good technique!

This is one of the worst threads I've ever read on this board. To put it simply Wake was the only pass rush we had at all last night. He is not in anyway the reason we lost the game last night. The fact that the secondary was clueless for much of the night and our coaching staff had no idea how to handle the Pat's no huddle cost us the game. There are plenty of things to complain about but Wake is not one of them.

To all of you who think Wake was held a lot last night - get used to it because a lot of other teams are going to be doing exactly the same thing

Maybe you should read the OP (me). Nobody is blaming anything on Wake. He simply needs some new moves, because when you just lay on him he will fall. If he was held he was being tackled other than that. Worst thread you've ever seen? Are you aware of a gentleman by the name of WV? ;)

Actually as the game went on you could see Wake was starting to get past the rookie and started tiring him out. Wake started getting more and more pressure that led to one sack, one wouldbe sack, and a holding call against Soldier. He started breaking Soldier down.
