Details of the contract:
• Wake's salary cap numbers from 2012 to 2016 will be (in millions): $2.2, $5.0, $7.3, $9.7, $9.8. The Dolphins now have about $5.5 million in cap space this year, giving Ireland enough room to sign the rookie class (about $2 million) and give another contract extension if he so chooses (Jake Long is at the top of his list).
• His salary ($615,000) and bonuses ($50,000) stay the same for 2012.
• His contract is heavily back-loaded - almost $16.5 of the $26.5 million in base salaries come in the final two years.
• Between 2014-2016, Wake can earn an extra $5 million per season if he reaches a certain number of sacks in a year. That number is not known.
• If the Dolphins pay Wake the $3 million option in 2015, and he makes the team in September, he will get an additional $5.2 million in salary that year. His salary for 2016 would then be $8.275 million.
