Walker: Hickey received offers to trade down at 19 but wanted to stay to pick James

For what it's worth most considered Bruce Irvin a huge reach for the seahawks a couple years back. I think most people rely too much on perceived value. Value cannot be determined until we see game action at the NFL level.

There is no way anyone on here can say with certainty no one after us was interested in James. The fact another Olinemen didn't get picked after James is irrelevant because if a team had interested in him and he was off the board they could have simply moved on. I remember a few years ago everyone ripped the seahawks for taking irvin so early then like 5 other teams came out and said he was on their radar in the 1st. Point is unless teams release their boards we will never know who had intentions of doing what.

My perspective is if the staff is confident enough that this kid will lock down the right side then I don't care if he had a 7th round grade lol. I would have loved to have gotten an extra 3rd but if this is the guy we need then is it really worth the risk? Again we are all clueless as to what would have played out unless the other 31 teams come out and say James wasn't on our board. We can't say Hickey is a terrible GM yet because this is his first pick and the kid hasn't taken a snap yet. I don't know enough about him as a player to like or hate the pick but we filled a need, so I'm not going to lose sleep over it until this guy plays a few snaps.

Just to play devil's advocate here, nobody knows if he would have been there at 27.

All you saying you know what other teams have as their draft board is just hilarious. "He wasn't on my board here" blah blah, that's why you post on forums.

It doesn't matter if he would have been there at 27 or not, there would have been a lineman of comparable skills at 27. It's not like this guy was some sort of all-pro can't miss prospect.

For better or for worse, what this pick of a RT illustrates to me:
-Our current GM and coaching staff are confident in Ryan Tannehill as our QB for the near future
-they are confident our receivers will be healthy and effective this year
-they are somewhat satisfied with the defensive side of team

Many will argue the GM and coaching staff are horrid, and we shall see. As much as I wanted to see a guy like cooks or a cb added in the first, I refuse to let our first pick dictate my feelings on the team going forward. It's only the month of May after all

I don't believe this at all. Wow, a reporter not telling the truth, that's new.....

The offers could have been a mid 2nd and a 4th. Do we know what the actual offers were? No. If there was no value for us, then so be it.

Re-read it. It says "Hickey says"

This isn't the opinion of a reporter, it came directly from Hickey.

HAHA at the Do you miss me yet? Ireland sucks ballz! He would have traded half the draft to move up in the draft and still picked James.

Funny how much overreaction there is on this board. It doesnt really matter who the GM is, there would still be a group of ppl vehemently complaining about something.

The offer could have been to drop back 10 spots for a 7th rounder. Thats why I find this thread completely hilarious, ppl getting their underwear all bunched up about something they have absolutely no idea about.

'''I'm fine with the pick if he's starting from DAY 1. We desperately needed a RT. I don't care what you guys think.. there we no guarantee James would have been there when we picked in a trade down. And I don't think there are any other RT with the same valued skillset that James had. The other two closest linemen were sflo and kujo. siflo is guard and kuj is a run blocking RT Philbin wants to pass the ball and James is a pass blocking RT. Anybody remember the houston game? RT lost that game for us. So if you have a guy that fits in perfectly to what you do... don't risk it, take him and don't get cute. BUT HE BETTER BE THAT GUY.... OTHERWISE I WANT THEM ALL FIRED.

Look, I'll say this for Hickey.

1) I'd have been more annoyed if we took Martin at 19
2) I'd have been really annoyed if we traded up for Martin
3) If you look at the players taken in the last third, a lot of them were players expected to still be around in the first half of R2 (Bucannon, Ward, Benjamin, Easley, Smith) So,if we're reaching then so are those guys. We got offered a tradedown deal though. That's the bit that annoys me. If we hadn't, then I could swallow Hickey's reasoning.

It's an average pick, that's all. I think the player will be solid/decent. He certainly can't be worse than what we had at RT last year.

However, there were ways to get the most out of the position we were in, but we stuck with average. It's the same thing we have seen from this organization for 15 years.

Dare to be great? Not the Dolphins.

A third round pick to trade down 8 spots late in first round is not bad value esp when u probably get that player or a similar player at that pick.
I hated both moves. We got a part time defensive player and overdrafted a tackle by a round.

And YOU know this how?
